Some jackasses who post breathless YouTube videos, creaming themselves about how great new cars and trucks are would never dare say anything bad or controversial because they will lose access.

That is one of the reasons that the “influencer” community is so laughable.

The only way you’re going to get an honest review of the new generation is when somebody buys it with their own money and doesn’t have to suck up to Toyota.

Even what’s left of the so-called automotive press can’t be too critical.

One had an issue, so what? How many third gens have issues especially from the first model years.

Now show me all those Priuses with 300-500k miles still going strong

The rest of us get it. You hate the 3rd gen, and good for you. They sold over 1.5 million of them so many more people actually liked them enough to buy one. I agree it was time for Toyota to come out with a gen 4, but good lord you have even yet to see one in person. I do like what I see from the new truck but will not be in the market. I personally love my 2022 DCLB and will be holding onto it, and no this is not my first Tacoma, I have owned quite a few. The constant bashing and comments about how third gen values are tanking are just crazy.

    Very true,
Don't get me wrong, there are some updates here that the Tacoma I feel REALLY benefits from like that all-the-time 4wd in the Limited trim, updated interior having carplay/android wireless by default, etc.
But these (aside from the 4wd system or hybrid power train) are all things that you could add to a 3rd gen with aftermarket tools. Their just more polished when built into the model from the factory.

Glorified sales pitch! Nothing more nothing less. With that being said I think it's going to be a good truck, but you are making it out to be some life changing end all other previous gen tacoma's is crazy. This is turning out to be the most over hyped tacoma yet.

I personally had a 2016 Tacoma and did not care for the performance. The shifting was horrible and had less torque then horsepower. I sold it and bought a 21 Tundra Pro a few years later. If the tunes were out to reprogram the shifting points I would have tried that first.

I respect people that love the 3rd generation and I don't hate on them at all. The bottom line is as long as YOU like it then it's a win. I am very excited for 465lbs of torque at 1700 rpm and 326 horsepower with better fuel economy.

I agree. 50 minute sales pitch with not one truck being test driven.

Why don’t I feel confident in getting solid truck info from people obsessed with the Prius. Probably just me……

No money, all went to truck...
its always funny when people make such strong claims before knowing all the details and driving the truck.

One comparison that can be made, and I'm sure Toyota will be watching and the only one who will know for sure. Will be how many 4G Limiteds compared to 4Runners sold for the same year. 4R Limited is also the only trim with fulltime 4wd. Which seem to sell pretty well, people are probably buying them for their luxury attributes, over the FT4wd, even though they like the idea of that system, both of which are why the GX sells. The FT4wd is the only reason IMO to buy one of these vehicles that have that system outside of them being Toyotas, I think it's the biggest advantage to the new Limited, the luxury appointments are nice and I'm sure some people prefer that trim level for that, vs the Limited offering no mechanical advantage over any other v6 Tacoma.

Yeah, in the 3rd gen the only thing the Limited has going for it was that you got the features without having to add packages to other trims like the TRD Offroad/Sport, but otherwise it was the exact same, or worse if you consider you don't get any of those drivetrain features that the Offroad has or the tuning of the Sport.

I like that it has something to really set it apart here and the FT4wd kind of works when you think of the "Luxury" angle as it means you don't have to manually swap in and out of 4wd.
Or, as my wife put it, It's like having a Subaru Truck.

Unless these Prius with 300-500K are on the original battery pack there is nothing to brag about. I think some people are confused about what Toyota long term reliability has always meant. Original power plant/drivetrain with very little out of pocket cost to reach extended miles.

The replacement battery packs (refurbished) can be had for hundreds of dollars- probably much less than a brake job all around at any mechanic. It’s a battery, not diamonds.

Hundreds for the dealership to replace the battery pack isn’t bad at all. Was thinking couple thousand.
Wonder what the 4G Tacoma battery pack replacement cost will be if done by dealership.
