Was posted somewhere else. But he commented on this and he CAN drive it, he chose not to because the traction control won't turn on.

Yeah, I remember in the Tundra introduction video they say you can keep driving it even if the hybrid system fails.

Hybrid simply means two different power systems that can work, together or (not and) separately to provide full, or partial power to the machine. So there are many different hybrids and they are all.... you guessed it.... hybrids.

They should have just given it bigger batteries then you get the best of both worlds in electric mode sitting in traffic on takeoff and at 55-75 mph. Problem solved. I’m sure they’ll add this version soon you buy the non hybrid, the hybrid that gets 24 mpg or the hybrid that gets 35+ mpg…I’ll wait on the last one. Your choice which you want.
I get 21 mpg in my third gen on a regular basis. 22 -24 on a hybrid is a no go.

Agree. The classification is not quite clear.
Some sources put Prius and Rav4 Hybrid into "series-parallel" type of hybrid systems. Which makes sense judging by the drivetrain behavior on these 2 vehicles.

Finally something we can agree on. June-August I get about 21MPG but in the winter that drops to 15-16 so all-in I average just under 19. A handful of emmpeegees won't be worth the price difference to me. I'll have to see what their final numbers are when they're released.

For my Highlander, it was $2k to go from the non hybrid to the hybrid and increase the MPG about 10, which we thought was an acceptable upgrade.

It’s not just about MPG, it’s about the fact that the hybrid will deliver more MPG with far more horsepower and torque throughout the rev range. It will doubtlessly drive better than a 3g by a wide margin

I actually think the Hybrid version has 500 pounds less tow rating.

This is perfect internetology in action.

One person keeps posting the same single thing over and over and over again in every place possible to make it seem like it's a prolific and systemic issue to people not paying attention.

Some of y'all need to look up the definition of "anecdata" and it's comparison to actual data. And stop being a bunch of boomer cliches; can't imagine how many of y'all have made the statement "stereotypes exist for a reason" with zero irony.

I just want to know what the different trims will get mpg wise.

They must not of improved it very much. Otherwise marketing would be screaming the gas savings from the Hawaiian volcano tops, to offset the massive price of the TrailBro.

Or, more likely, it’s not finalized. You virtually never get mileage data 6+ months before a vehicle goes on sale

I figure we’ll have all the numbers before September.

I think you're spot on. If they offered something impressive it would have been right out in front: "CLASS LEADING MPG!"

I'm thinking its gonna be around where the Ranger 2.3 ecoboost is. Maybe a hair better.

Toyota had to "tune" the new Tacoma's hybrid for power and torque, not mileage. Why? The competition, that's why.

GM's 2.7L turbo 4-cylinder puts out 430 lb.-ft. of torque in the brand-new Colorado/Canyon, and Ford is offering a choice of two very stout twin-turbo V6's in the brand-new Ranger!

Toyota's answer is to make the hybrid a powerhouse...but you sacrifice overall mpg capability by tuning for power.

I still think the tough competition and impending economic recession will create a price war in the mid-size truck class (maybe a year from now), and I'm hoping it does!

There's gotta be a price war cause the cost of small truck is insane. You could get a mid grade 1/2 ton.

I'm not disagreeing with either point, simply saying that since I personally don't tow anything, don't off road and, while anemic, the acceleration of my '19 is... adequate... if the MPG numbers are enough, I'm not interested in trading mine in.

Now if they essentially just took mine and replaced the engine with the one from my Highlander Hybrid and I got its kind of mileage, I'd be in line at the dealership waiting for it to be delivered.
