Nice! I already have the Black Shadow but always wanted this model. It has been a great gun

 

Nice! Only taken mine out once since I got it but it's fun. Always wanted a 12 and with these models there isn't much that can go wrong.

 

Not a trap model though, strictly speaking.
Barrel length?

 

Oh it's not even broken in. I've put a couple thousand through the Black Shadow with only a handful of jams. Better than the newer Remington 870s.

 

Yeah not exactly a trap model but if I remember correctly (heard this from my trap coach) the barrel has a vey slight curve upward. It does have a mid bead too

Okay, it seems that the dimensions are very close to the old model 12... which was a wise choice.
Model 12s have won countless trap matches.

It's almost certainly gonna shoot pretty flat.
Maybe that's your preferred style for trap

If not, or if you want to experiment, try some moleskin on the comb.
You can do 1, 2 or even 3 layers to see how you like a higher shooting trap gun.
It's a cheap way to find out.

 

I'll have to see if I like how it shoots before I try that moleskin idea.

Your options for songbird species that always* or sometimes# (also nest low in veg) nest on the ground in NY are:

Dark-eyed junco*

Ovenbird*

Song sparrow#

White-throated sparrow#

All of which can have eggs with that coloration/marking (lots of variability, some can be all white for example).

If it is not near water you can likely rule out song sparrow.
