The new Colorado/Canyon stayed the same or slightly increased, expecting the Tacoma to be similar.

Same here!! My 2020 has 16000 miles and paid off I’ll be keeping it for a long time. They’ll have better mpg when I want another one.

You really can’t. Any similarly equipped 1/2ton is VASTLY more expensive than the midsize trucks. A 4x4 f150 with vinyl floors and literally zero options MSRPs for more than a TRD OR .

Yeah, this used to be the case, but then the mfgs realized they could charge $20k more for the full sized trucks across the board.

Depends on your speed and assist. But it is proven gas cars are more fuel efficient at a constant highway speed. Full EV's use more electric at highway speed.

All this chatter about MPG increases is interesting but amusing.

If one is considering the purchase of a 24 based on MPG over a 3rd gen, you need to learn how to use Excel. So you understand the ROI on the thousands you'll have to toss down to make the move.

It will be a looooooong time.

Make your choices, but don't try to rationalize it based on MPG

True, Bill. Just did the math on 39 mpg (Rav4 hybrid) vs my 4R at 18.5 mpg.

I save $909 driving 10k miles a year, assuming gas is at $3.20 per gallon (average fill up here).

You'd save $396 per year going with a 24 mog vehicle, so not a lot of savings. Same reason I wouldn't buy a 4 cyl taco, not enough savings.

I'd say if you have a Taco with under 150k miles, no real benefit to buying a new one (unless you want different cab, 4wd, etc.). If I was buying from scratch and cross shopping the other makes, the features might sway me to Toyota, but most people on here are obviously biased to Tacos already.

That doesn’t make sense if it goes into ev mode you aren’t burning any fuel so it’s definitely better than gas cars. If it’s really cold I get 35mpg on my way to work ev didn’t kick on as much when it warms up I get 45+ mpg. Same trip. Hybrid coming on during start ups only won’t help much only if you are in stop and go traffic frequently but I’m not.

I read up on your kia model and it does not use EV mode on freeway.
Edmunds reviews stated that your hybrid version(not plug-in) had a worse 75 mph mpg test.

EV assist 'assists' the gas engine when the computer determines load demands on the ICE engine. Also, there are 3 different types of hybrids. Some don't work at all speeds, some do. Some work off the line to a certain MPH and some don't.

You could make the decision based on other factors if it had improved emission controls plus the the mpg meant something to you.

But yeah, look at a spreadsheet if it’s purely about money and look elsewhere if you want 35mpg or whatever the latest eTruck eMPGs offer.

I would prefer a basic turbo 4 over a turbo 4 combined with an electric motor that also requires nickel batteries stuffed under the rear seats. Just less stuff to worry about is all, plus some add’l storage.

Admittedly having little interest in emissions, and being satisfied with the power of my current truck, I would also prefer a NA V6 versus a turbo 4. A next gen Toyota V6 making 300+ would’ve been Toyota’s first choice too, but that was never going to be possible.

True. Additionally, I would also attest the Tacoma will trounce the Ranger Raptor due to the hybrid motor providing instant torque.

My Kia goes into ev mode anytime the battery is up. So at anytime, do it all the time at 70 mph. Edmonds is wrong I guess. Not a plug in. Free energy

There have been many posts of people trying to rationalize it based on gas mileage.

I would love to see superior 2024 and 2025 Tacoma mpg numbers over my 2021. If history repeats itself, we’ll see a minor improvement, nothing more.

I think most people will be happy to see a smooth automatic that delivers predictable power.

Until concrete numbers and prices are released, it’s all speculation.

That should be the title of a lot of threads here about the 4th gen.

Power is predictable in 3rd gen, its just in the rpm band where people don't like it.
So the solution is to add a drill motor that is used on starts only. Wow.

Drill motor? lol Good one but wholly uninformed and untrue. This should be like the Tundra working when needed not just at starts.
