    That double cab tundra is the ugliest cab configurations of any brand, worse than the mega cab. Goofy looking rear door and miserable seat

    The engineers are seen in multiple launch event videos saying no doors was for cab rigidity. You can read between the lines pretty easily on that. Toyota isn't just going to take away features for the funsies. I don't know why that is such a stretch for you to believe that. Go on thinking it was a conspiracy on Toyota's part to make customers angry, I guess.

    I actually made all of these edited photos way back in 2016 or 2017, except for the very bottom image here. I used Microsoft Paint. Glad to see they are still in rotation on Tacoma World. lol

    Everything is money related. Obviously there are ways to make an access cab safe enough to pass crash tests. They must simply feel the cost (manufacturing, engineering, etc.) compared to sales demand warrants giving up on this. If they determine later the opposite is true we will see them again down the road.

    Another thing to consider is Toyota knows everyone is dropping the regular cab. The fact they kept some two-door variant is pretty impressive. They could have just followed the trend and eliminated it altogether.

    Removing a B pillar from an all-new shared platform while meeting future crash standards would be a very challenging (read: expensive) feat for Toyota. Much more so than swapping in a manual transmission, for example. You can bet that if the ROI was in the cards, they would do it. Credit them a little for at least offering a two door option at all, while GM & Ford said go pound sand.

    If you want a backward swinger complete w a V6 under the hood, better find a ‘23 this summer. The dealer might cut you a deal, and you’d be getting a pretty damn good truck.

    I was just recently trying to swap out the chrome caps on mine...until I saw I needed to take the whole dang bumper apart to get the caps off all the way :confused:. Gave up and said "it's fine as-is":rofl:


    So, for you...you're saying you pulled off the caps without taking the whole bumper apart? Did you have to break those two clips?

    To be fair, Toyota “officially” says the TRD air intake increases horsepower too.

    In December, IIHS announced they were now putting a dummy (meant to represent a small woman or 12-year old) in the left rear seat for the moderate offset frontal crash.
    There simply isn’t enough room in an AC back to protect that passenger while at the same time keeping the driver away from the steering wheel.

    I agree that the vast majority of we AC owners will never have a human in the back; the new Xtracab makes that certain.

    Toyota can talk about “utility” and not be wrong, but ditching the rear seats has a lot to do with meeting safety requirements.

    The Access Cab Utility Package, which Toyota says make up 50% of the AC models they sell, has no rear seats. If the scenario you speculate was the reason AC was discontinued they could have simply eliminated rear seats for all AC models.
    Like I said it’s fun to speculate but I’ll go with the a credible source like Toyota in post #95 over someone’s post of what they think.
    Since no one has been able to give me a source on whether safety was indeed a consideration, I’ll give you one.

    I have no idea if any of this was the article authors speculation or if he actually has a Toyota source. The new model could have been designed with access doors with improvements if safety was a factor, or been provided only on the Utility Package version. In any case it is what it is - cheaper to build and more profit margin without the doors.

    My take on it is as I put in my post. I value facts and reliable sources over speculation, and try to research best I can. The article author gives no sources so at this point I have no ability to draw any conclusions from it. Post 95 has a credible source and maybe we find out more as time goes on.

    The 2024 prerunner looks neat, but not having the manual hurts a little. The fact it's only going to be 2wd means I'm not interested. I have to drive it in the winter and live in a state that gets snow.

    Can’t get any more authoritative than the 2024 Tacoma chief engineer, good find, thank you.
    Seeing the various views of the xtra cab, it might just be workable since the passenger seat folds down you can still slide long items in the back.
    The eight speed automatic also sounds like an improvement. Not sure about the new chassis though since he mentioned lighter gauge steel except in high stress areas- wonder what accidents impact on this frame will result in repair cost wise.

    So many improvements - more adjustable steering wheel, better headroom and seats, suspension. on and on.
    With all the changes it will be interesting to see what the first year gremlins are.
