Tesla has 3 levels of driver assist. First is Autopilot comes with every car at no additional cost. Second is Full Self Driving (FSD) can be had for $15K or $200/month. Third is FSD Beta that has a confusing set of requirements that may or may not allow it to be turned on. My car had the most current version of the software which meant I couldn't get FSD Beta even though I was paying the $200/month fee. I knew this going in so I was only mildly disappointed.

Then last night I got a notice that 2023.12.10 update included FSD Beta. Needless to say I sat in my car in the hotel parking lot and updated to the new version. I've only had one day with it so my opinion might change, but my first impression is this is pretty amazing. I drove from Caribou Nova Scotia to Lunenburg (150 miles) using FSD Beta. It was freeway and back road rural driving, but it did 99% of the work. It smoothly changed lanes, exited freeways, stopped at stop signs, etc. I had to take over a couple of times at 4 way stops because humans suck at knowing when it's their turn to go. They had the right of way, and the Tesla and I both knew that, but they were waving me through.

I'll post more once I've had a chance to use it in city driving in Canada and the US.

That's one way for Ford to sell EVs, and bring up the price. I might see 1 Ford EV to every 50 Teslas I see on the road. Most of the Teslas I see are at charging stations, which might mean I could start seeing more Ford electrics. Funny that the article mentioned that Tesla owners don't want to share.

The NACS plug is vastly superior to the CCS and surprised Ford went with it. So many things around EV's seems to be ego driven so kudos to them for making the change. That said adaptors are pretty much a fact of life for EV's. I have a Tesla and carry a J1772 and a CCS to Tesla adaptors when on road trips. Even if the Ford had a NACS port they'd still need the J1772 and CCS adaptors. For me in the scheme of 1st world problems multiple adaptors rates a .25 on a scale of 0 to 10.

Toyota Ramps Up Commitment to Electrification with U.S. BEV Production and Additional Battery Plant Investment

This lines up with the Toyota financial meeting video earlier this month and the other vehicle besides the SUV may be the BEV pickup.

Unfortunately I can't believe anything Toyota says about BEV's until I actually see it in consumers hands. They've been promising this solid state battery tech for awhile now, and their bz4x offering is a pretty poor effort too.

Apparently the detachable front dash speaker on the 4th gen Tacoma has a solid state battery.
