Sorry to beat this dead horse again but I can’t figure out why Toyota threw on those chin gimmicks just to satisfy the EPA, while going out of their way to brag how easy they are to remove. It’s a waste of everyone’s time b/c their engineers couldn’t come up w a more practical solution for certification. Happy that we can remove them. But I doubt they’ll discount the cost of plastic if you do.

GM’s 4cyl turbos were a mpg disappointment. These Walmart-grade spoilers make me wonder how concerned Toyota is about this new truck being able to show decent fuel economy gains.

Probably there just to appease the EPA.

Ford’s Ecoboost were a letdown on mpgs when they came out too, everything but eco. Nothing more than a marketing term. Hoot to drive though as you watch the fuel gauge needle move towards empty.

Hopeful- fingers are crossed on MPG.
    And prices.
    And ride.
    And tailgate motors working
And seat shocks not overheating at the drive thru.

You're frustrated with the wrong people. Toyota couldn’t care less about fuel economy other than the ways fuel economy helps them sell more vehicles. They don’t want the air dams on there any more than you do. But they are mandated to have a fleet-wide average of 49mpg by 2026. Getting an couple miles out of some of the trucks contributes to that average. They know you are going to remove it but it helps them comply with the mandate and continue selling more cars.

They could have engineered changes to get those extra MPGs without the dam then it would be a Ford Maverick clone instead of the truck we all love. It would have involved losing HP, torque, payload, interior room, bed size, etc… and nobody wants that, nor are those thing easily improved by the consumer with 90 seconds and a Phillips head screwdriver. They are complying with the regs in the best way possible for the consumer.

It could be worse, they could have put the same system that is on the Tundra with the automatic one, creating another failure point that puts the truck out of commission....

I totally appreciate the realities of a changing regulatory climate and the inherent challenges for automakers to meet or exceed difficult standards, all while not turning our favorite truck into a lifted Santa Cruz.

But that plastic goatee looks so ridiculous and is so impractical (low), I should at least get a free Philips head & some balloons from the dealer for my trouble, especially after stroking them a 50k check.

Next time divert some of the power tailgate budget toward aero ideas that we may benefit from long term, and not want to immediately remove.

97% of 4th Gen Tacoma buyers won't take the chin spoiler off because they don't care. That's why Toyota put it on there and why it's easily removable. For people that care, i.e. enthusiasts and gearheads, it's really hard to justify complaining about.

Like someone else has said a dozen times now, if a minute and a half removal of a piece of plastic is the worst thing people can come up with to complain about this truck, it might as well be the most perfect vehicle ever conceived.

You never get better if you take the easy lines all the time. Might as well drive the bypass.

The JT rubicons are pretty legit, other than their fiat poor build qualities. Thing is on the Jeeps you can lift them 3 inches no problem, and they handle 35s with literally no modifications. You’ll have better break over angles at that point. Reinforce the steering box and maybe run 37s with some finagling.

You’ll have a better crawl ratio, front lockers and usually better flex, especially if you’re doing the lift. There’s some good manufactures with flexy control arms bushings. Despite being longer, the JT has a better breaker over angle even just on paper.

What do you think the out-the-door price (USD) of the Pro will be?

BTW, I hope you're right, in general.

I think it will be the most expensive midsize truck. I think we will all bitch about it. I think they will sell them faster than they can make them.

You can option out a ZR2 withing spitting distance of that, American Dinero's, not Looneys. Don't see Toyota electing to not play in the same arena.

I still think it will start real close to 60K for a Pro And TH personally. People are paying 50K+ for used Pro's now...

Eh, I can get my truck stuck, then use the locker to get unstuck, so I'm gonna have to disagree with ya on the first sentence. I'm not talking about any situation where a suspension difference matters, simply traction like climbing out of a ditch or creek.

I do agree the beater guy will be there waiting for me though lol.

I'm Canadian how would I know, but if it's 70k in the US it will be more then a Tundra up here and if definitely won't sell at that price in Canada

Traction control and proper tires work well enough, don’t really need a locker 99% of the time. Not really into wheeling a daily anymore. Got tired of breaking stuff, and fixing it way into the night just to get work the next day. Or worse do enough damage that the truck is out for 6 weeks. Have broken driveshafts, 3rd Members, axles before and parts/shop were weeks out.

These high prices are going to make the Rivian and Lightning more attractive. Stupidly expensive but at least you won’t have to pay for gas.
