So last week I had new tires put on the rear. 1 had a slice in the tread, and I couldn't afford all 4 tires. So I had 2 new tires put on the rear. The also took the good rear one and replaced my 10 year old spare. Now in the last day or 2 I've noticed that when I come to a complete stop, when I take off there's a metallic sound for a few seconds. Almost sounds like a chain hitting something. I took the spare tire back down made sure everything was cool there and put it back in place and the noise persists. I made an appointment for my shop to check it out next wednesday. Thought others here may have had something similar.
Truck is a 2014 DCSB TRD Sport, with 83000 miles on it.

It could be your U joints that have no grease and him or something more simple. It could be the dust plate on the front rotors that are hitting the road is a little bit. Keep it simple at first.

I will say it sounds like it's coming from the rear. but I don't know that for a fact.

Some U-joints will be non-Grease able that from factory, but give them a good visual inspection. Make sure they’re not all crusty and cruddy.
Your Santa bearing should have a little bit of playing. It may be a quarter inch ass and more than that I would have it checked or replaced.

Rusted clamp from the cat heat shield slid down the pipe? Mine had that similar “rattling” sound.

Metallic chain sound & they swapped out spare?

Check the spare....the take-up slack might be rattling against wheel. Also make sure trie is fully raised & seated against the frame.

That was the first thing I checked. Everything seems good there.

I apparently ended up fixing the issue. I bought a grease gun, and some nlgi 2 grease. Greased all 5 of the u joints on the drive shaft friday night. The truck hasn't made a peep since. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

My U-joints bit the dust a couple years ago and replaced them with ones with zerk fittings. Will do that for parts that should have fittings when needed.

I wouldn't say that it's fixed. You got it to quiet down for now. If it was making noise and greasing the universal joints made it quiet you still have a worn joint that needs to be replaced.

When you do you should do all of them as they are all probably worn.

thats a u joint. go get them changed, the grease you put in has leaked out again. I listened to your videos, and mine sounded just like that and progressively got worse. bet if you crawl under, you will be able to see lsung grease on the joint that is leaking

yeah. I'm taking it in monday. I'd do it myself, but I don't have a vehicle to use while it's down so I need it done faster.

Engage the emergency brake. Put the truck in drive or reverse. Give it some gas and listen for noise.
Make sure the emergency brake works before trying this.

This is exactly what it was for me. I just lived with it until the heat shield rusted off.

How important are those cat heat shields? I had a rattle that turn out to be one of the heat shields. It had rusted trough at all 3 attachment points. I just pulled it of yesterday.

They're not important at all. They're there so you don't burn yourself on the hot pipe when you crawl under the truck immediately after driving for 30+ minutes. They're also good for trapping mud, hence why they rust off so fast.

As an aside, that's also why I'm hesitant to get the full tuxedo.
