I have a lot of parts rolling in but sadly the update from summit is my cam won't ship until July. Since that's the first thing I need to install... I guess this project will take a bit of a pause for a bit. I still have a couple small things I can do until then at least and keep collecting parts.

Are you set on that specific cam set? You could always look at somewhere like Texas Speed for one of their sets which might be in stock now. Just have to call them to find out for sure most likely.

Just a different option for around the same price

I bought a kit from summit that had springs and pushrods to compliment that specific cam. Sure I guess I could piece it together, but I am not quite sure I have enough knowledge to get that right. It's ok, I'll be patient. I need to get new tires and install the suspension I've got sitting in the garage. I am hoping to make a final pass on the 3.4 with the higher boost setting and less weight just to see how much it improves from my initial pass.

Pretty much every aftermarket parts site is saying that for all parts now to avoid EPA litigation.

Oh I'm sure. Although it is curious how a cam would really change emissions in a meaningful way on its own.

Well that's the name of the game, its up to the manufacturer to provide proof it doesn't in every situation or its illegal for road use.

While the book I'm following says to just let the machine shop deal with the valve springs, that doesn't give me the opportunity to learn how they work. As someone who has always loved cars and trucks, it is important to me to use this as a learning opportunity, to better understand how this thing works. It will make diagnostics in the future that much easier. So, I bought the right tool and spent the 30 minutes to pull the springs and organize the valves myself.

The tool was from summit (spoiler, 95% of the tools and parts for this build are going to be from summit), and it's by pro-form (pnPRO-67605). Worked flawlessly but was a bit of a shame it didn't come with a case to keep it all together for the next project. It's shipping box will do I suppose.
    Tool in action:

    All parts removed.

And valves organized for the machine shop tomorrow.

If you are insinuating that these truck will lift the front tires at the strip then I think you are in for a world of disappointment:laugh: gotta keep in mind the off-road mods are coming off. Probably keep the front bumper but everything else has to go and this thing needs lowered as much as possible!

Installed the Summit Racing Trunnion upgrade kit today. Pretty easy and the tool they sell makes it a breeze. Had to borrow a bench vise but all in all pretty smooth install. So rockers are done! Cam is pushed back further into July sadly, but I'm hoping to get the heads back next week so I can get the new springs installed and the heads will be able to be wrapped up.

I do need to make some calls to some shops as the Advanced Adapters bellhousing says it isn't for LS applications. I also noticed the CX racing engine mounts note they are not for front sump setups, but that's what I am pretty sure I will need. Lots of details to sort out but all I'm looking forward to working my way through it.

New wheels and tires for $250. Probably worth a half a second on their own!

Got the truck lowered. The rear needs to come down further and probably some softer shocks would help. Looks more appropriate for speed now.
