    Internal page shows package breakdowns.

All TRD's are listed as SR5, even Pro's, It's just the trim level upgrade. Yours is a TE upgrade and tech upgrade. Good colour too.

Unfortunately your truck is neither a TRD nor trail edition. Even the trail edition would have a rear differential locker button right beside the S.O.S. button.

If you have the vehicle's sale listing, please share it with us. If you do not have a copy of the listing, I would suggest you attempt to obtain a copy as it will be critical for you to have if you decide to pursue legal action.

Depending on how the dealership marketed the vehicle, they could be liable to you for monetary damages, or you could potentially force them to take the truck back. I am a hobby lawyer (i.e., not a graduated or licensed attorney [yet]), and this is not legal advice.

If the circumstances of your situation are just right, you can screw these people with their pants on.

They have since taken down the listing so I don’t have it. What should I be asking for when I reach out?

You have the window sticker? Or something that ties the VIN to the TRD OR trim statement? Perhaps in the paperwork?

The first run TE was a simple upgrade from SR5, this is 100% a 2021 trail edition.

Since the listing has already been removed you are going to have to be crafty to get a copy. Is this a small dealership or large dealership? Toyota? Non-toyota?

If its a big dealership I would suggest getting in touch with the internet marketing department or whoever runs the website. Tell them it was your first Tacoma purchase and you want a copy of the listing to save for your future files for posterity or for the next owner when you go to sell it.

You have window sticker? It should show the trim and list of items on the truck... If no window sticker, then the dealer is sneaky like that. Dealer usually leave window sticker inside the truck after purchased by buyer.

FYI, dealer can work around on the window sticker which they made some changes on the specific model.

If you want off road model, then you should take the truck back and demand them to give you the off road model. If not, start legal action on those idiots. Call manager at Toyota dealer or someone at HQ.

You can contact lawyer so you two can work on damages with Toyota for wrong trim on sale listing or window sticker if you have it.

upload_2023-5-27_20-12-33.jpgHere is the truck when I bought it. I don’t have an closer picture but you can see if you zoom in it was listed as TRD

it was purchased at Larry H Miller Volkswagen Dealership in Avondale AZ. So a pretty big dealership.

Good point, and thank you for correcting the record, I was unaware of that.

Nevertheless, OP states that the truck had TRD Off-Road stickers placed on it and that the truck was advertised as a TRD off-road, which is both troubling and problematic from a consumers standpoint.

That isn’t a factory OR sticker. Previous owner out that on there.

Holy crap! that is nutz. We got so screwed by this pandemic / inflation... Sorry, I digress

Not to bring you down, maybe just some perspective
Almost 6 years ago I ordered this:
2017, TRD Off-Road 4x4, DCSB, Quicksand, Manual Trans., Tow Package, All weather mats, sill guards and wheel locks.

Negotiated price: $32,881 (Including Freight and Dealer Fee) ~$500 over invoice
+ $1,350: 5.15% Virginia Sales Tax, Title and Tags
    - $1,000 Toyota Military Rebate
    = 33,231 OTD

2017 DCLB Off-Road, purchased April 2021 with 52K miles on it, for ~30K otd.

Prices are nuts and they are going to stay this way.

The consumer needs to make sure they are getting value for their money.

    That sucks, but…

    1. Should have bought a new truck from Toyota directly since you paid the new truck price for seats that have already been farted in.

    2. Should have done some basic research before spending money.

Not sure if it would hold up in court but this is on their website for every listing.

I see you have SR5 on the door... The dealer is dumbass for misprint on the paper. If VIN shows SR5 then you have SR5... If you want off road, then take it back and ask for off road model.

But the paper you provided us, it is not window sticker... we talked about window sticker that came with the truck from factory.

In my opinion that says "Tacoma 4WD TRD OR."

Be reasonable with what you expect to happen here. Despite the misprint on the paperwork the truck clearly does says "SR5" on it.

A fair and reasonable outcome would be for the dealership to simply allow you to return the truck. Bear in mind that in order to get the TRD OR that you want you may have to pay more for it, buy it elsewhere, wait to find the right one, etc. Analyze your situation, figure out what will be the best outcome for you, then decide how you are going to handle this situation.
