I'm in southern california too and I think its worth it. My first night with the GFC in Montana it was pouring which is what made me consider getting it as it was just a stream of water into the backseat when I opened the door. Then when I got back to california I would notice just the morning dew would cause the water to drip into the same spot, so I ordered them. They do what they're supposed to and considering the prices of other mods I've done this was fairly cheap.

Anyone have a solution to this big gap in the sealing below the rear latches on the V2? I get quite a bit of water in through these and it's annoying me

I stuffed butyl tape in there, works pretty good.

I cut a cpl small pieces of P-strip tailgate seal, and stuck it on the backside of the rear hatch so that when I close it most of that gap is taken away.

On which surface? The top of the bedside, the bottom lip of the rear door, something else?

Another photo with the tailgate down to further elaborate

This is what I'm looking for, that butyl is so smushed it could be caulk. Hopefully this will solve my problem. I also think I need a "limit strap" bit of paracord on the hatch to stop water from running down it into the bed when open

Thank you! I shared a few screen snags of my fairing CAD model, over on the GFC forum. My username there is docdave15. https://forum.gofastcampers.com/t/gas-mileage-effects/1351/51

In ideal conditions, I was back to getting close to 20 MPG. The bump was at least 2 MPG with the fairing.

How are people liking the latest version of the GFC? Any leaking issues? Im tempted to pull the trigger on one. I built the homemade version but I haven't been able to completely make it leak free and living in the PNW is a real detriment.

I havent had a issue in the mountains of N Az where we had the one of the wettest winters in 100yrs. However, it probably doesnt compare to the constant rain you guys have. They have made a ton of changes recently though for wetter environments.
I picked up my V2 early last year. There has been quite a few updates since just then.

Oh really? I wonder what those changes are. I just saw they partnered with a shop outside portland to sell their stuff which is now making this more tempting.

Take a look at the newest install pics on the GFC website...there are a number of spots with new milling to facilitate better drainage.

I like the V2 a lot, I got to spend a lot of time in a friend's V1. There are some quirks like if you have the hatches open they funnel water in which I wasn't expecting but most water intrusion is from the Tacoma's known spots

I have been looking for the right topper for about a year now. I have a decked system and use my truck for mostly hunting. Seeing that I could knock down two birds here with a GFC, it’s got me thinking.

I gotta ask the team here, has it been worth it to install the GFC? I hunt a lot and it would be nice to have something like this to keep me more comfy than a tent setup or sleeping in the bed.

It’s a big investment for me and I’d like to know if anyone has any food for thought on the above.

In my opinion, well worth it. Love having the closed off/lockable shell to be able to transport stuff in the bed securely, and it's extremely convenient for camping, both in that it opens up a lot of room for you to store more stuff, and also makes setup/packing very quick.

My only real regret with the GFC is that I can't use my truck to transport my motorcycle anymore, but a uHaul trailer costs like $20 to rent for the day so it's not a huge deal.
