South Carolina BS thread under new MANAGEMENT and lives in SC

I need to replace all the ducting at my house. Luckily it’s all in a open basement with 9ft ceilings

 

I'm 48, I have done and continue to do most of the home repair stuff around the house. I'm at the same point in my life though. Big jobs like that I'd rather just pay someone else.
Just had another guy out to quote us on the job. I'm still waiting on a price, but I like him more so far. He says the main metal ductwork is fine, he can just rewrap it. And fix/replace a few other things. Everyone else was trying to rip it all out and start over. We have a sunroom that is a walled in old carport so it has a separate crawl space. The sunroom has always been hotter and I've assumed it was because all of the windows. Turns out, the main duct under there was partially disconnected! So it was just blowing cold air under the house. He fixed that when he was just out giving us an estimate! That's awesome and will definitely sway my opinion on who to use.

Well hell I'd do that myself!

 

I'm the same way with home repair, I'll do it myself but some shit I farm out. I'll pay people to do tile work for example. I would probably pay people to do duct work if I was in a crawl space or attic. All mines in the basement ceiling so I would just have at myself here lol!!

 

Everyone else was in the $6k range, he comes back and says $2600. SOLD!

 

I find myself farming more stuff out after kids. I just don’t have the extra free time to dedicate anymore. Something might take me a week to accomplish when someone else it might take a day. Things like heating and a/c I can’t leave the wife and kids without while I fumble about with it. Replacing stairs or door frames? Meh sure use the other door for a while. It’s getting to be the same with the car and boat repairs too… maybe I’m getting old and lazy too haha
