    I just towed a 16' U-Haul through the mountains of WVA. I can tell you that you are pushing it with this weight. Expect to crawl with engine revving A LOT.

    I am a little more at ease about pulling this trailer (4000 lbs dry) with the feed back you all are giving. I figgure if I take it easy the truck shoud be fine under this load. I will post pics when I get it home.

    Here it is, a Crossroads Zinger 19RD. Weighs right at 4000# with batt and lp tanks. My engine was working but it made highway speed and my coolant temp only increased about 7 deg. We will see what happens during summer!

    How did you find your coolant temp? I have a scangaugeII and would like to see this info. You aren't referring to the elusive Transmission temp are you? Or just regular old coolant / radiator temp.

    It is the line the SG that is "FWT"' and is only the engine coolant temp. The F is fahrenheit and the WT is for water temp. I am also looking/waiting to the elusive Transmision Temp (as i am sure every Taco owner who has a SGII.

    Was it the 12' or a 16'? I haven't seen U-Haul rent a 16' trailer (although I'd really like one for moving this summer).

    I have physically witnessed a mid 90's small ram drw tow 5 cars on a double decker trailer. Big cars too, not smartcars ( 25k load easy). Those rams are rated at 160 and 175 hp. So by your logic a Tacoma would tow that too. Some people have alot to learn about towing.

    U-Haul's largest trailer is 6' x 12'. I too would benefit from a 16' trailer.

    Okay lets use a little common sense here and be smart I am just saying we did a lot with less
    and we didnt know any better because it was what we had.
    Your comparison is quite abstract and yes you can do anything you want as long as you are willing to pay the consensuses

    The Tacoma is solid vehicle and it does what a truck did in the 80's with much less but you always have to be smart about what you are doing.

    I saw a Chevy S10 Blazer and travel trailer on it's side on twisty section of I-80 near Rockport Reservoir, UT. The trailer was about 35'

    August of 2013 I towed 6300 lbs from Homewood, Alabama to San Simeon, CA. We used a U-Haul Auto Transport with a 1985 Isuzu Trooper on it. U-Hual recommends driving at 55 mph. We averaged 15 mph and did not have any problems. My Tacoma did the job with ease. BTW.... From Memphis we traveled I-40. I have the Toyota factory towing package. This is the best truck I have ever owned and I will keep it until the wheels fall off.
