Here's one from KBB for 2022
    https://www.kbb.com/best-cars/most-popular-suvs/

4 Runner is ranked #16 in popularity among SUV sales. Meaningless data IMO. There are only 3 BOF midsize SUV. Wrangler is #1, 4Runner #2, and Brono#3 in popularity based on sales numbers.

Can someone in the “oh my god the screen sticks up 2” above dash” club tell me what’s so bad about that? Would you prefer the Ranger or what Volvo does and have it integrated really low into the center stack so you’re eyes are completely not even looking near the road?

People just don't like the look. Practically it's in a great position. Though Chevy seems to do a good job of having the screen up in good viewing position but still integrating into the dash better.

I'd rather have it in the back of the driver's head rest, so I don't have to see it at all, or just get rid of it. I don't mind Toyota's design here as it does not bulk up the dash too much, I'd still prefer the smaller screen. I went to a smaller screen, and it does not catch my peripheral vision as much.

Will the day come that drivers will be sitting behind the wheel wearing VR goggles viewing the road GPS, and and a browser through the meta verse, or google glass?

They sell everyone of them as quick as they can produce them. What more can Toyota want?

They are a popular vehicle to own they have been since the early 80s, 4Runners aren't the most popular vehicles being sold. Toyota does not build enough of them for the US market to allow that. I'm referencing the popularity of new vehicle sales.

If Toyota built the same amount of 4R as they did RAV4 they would have to offer some incentive or discount, as the wouldn't be selling every one they build. That's why Toyota builds the number they do, and sells them all.

The dealer can also make more money by holding onto service loaners, and demo vehicles and selling them CPO.

THE 4 Runner is not a truck....the 4 runner is not a truck....The 4 runner is the best selling body on frame SUV that Toyota sells in North America and has been for a long time......Because...the 4 runner is not a truck....

It's a utility just like any other 4dr ute with a bed that is shorter than 6' feet. Those trucks aren't trucks.

Still makes more sense to ditch the lower sales volume vehicles BOF SUV, and focus on higher volume sales vehicles CUV.

Except if they do, they completely exit from a category of vehicle in the US that gives their portion of those sales to Jeep and Ford....As you said, there are only 3 body on frame mid size SUV's Bronco, Wrangler, 4 Runner....the 121,000+ people that bought 4 runners last year, are not all going to buy Tacomas, Highlanders, or Rav 4's, so Toyota has decided it wants to stay in the market and compete with the other 2 rather than give those sales to somebody else. Rumor has it, that they really want to compete in that category and the upcoming 4 runner will be more off road worthy than every to take give an even better alternative to the Jeep and Bronco buyer.

I for one can't wait to see the 4 runner trail hunter....

I've been thinking about getting rid of the Tacoma and getting a 4 runner to replace it, just waiting to see what the next one is all about.

I can pick up an old beater ford or if I want to stay with a toyota find an old beater 2nd gen or tundra to pull the truck bed duties.

This. People are losing their minds about an optional item they aren’t going to be forced have. Plus that 2” or whatever above the dash doesn’t impede your view at all. Not even one little bit… unless you drive with your face at dashboard level.

I'm in the club of "oh my (not religious), why the fck are you looking at ANY screen and not the road or any of your surroundings"

That's why they put controls on the steering wheel. face forward (and blind checks), hands do the work. everything else can wait.

the screen gazing people won't go away regardless of where it is placed - we've all seen the people looking at their phones while they drive.

Appears the 4th gen seats will fit in a third gen. Seat shocks aside they look more comfortable than the 3rd gen versions.

Between those and an LS swap what more do you need?

    That's how Toyota sells cars.

There's also a small minority that will show up to argue almost anything I say about the topic. When the majority of forum participants do not discuss the topic, and move on. That small minority also never brings any substantive points of their own to said topic, or offer any of there own opinions on the topic.

To me the Highlander is a crossover not an suv . For me Suv are more truck like and I see the Highlander as more of a car but I see what you are saying

I stopped reading when you said the 4r is leaving Japan. Say it with me , They don't have the capacity to move the 4r from Japan. Mexico does not have the room

Toyota will build an additional plant in Mexico or Texas. I don't think the two current plants can accommodate a 2nd vehicle line. Toyota definitely wants to move NA truck production out of Japan.

I don't have a problem with it, but I can see how some think it looks too much like an after thought, just tacked on. It doesn't seem like it is integrated well at all with the dashboard, hence the portrait version being preferred by some.
