We just want to see something rational to justify your FUD. Someone even posted that he could feel his truck running better after he changed the oil. See? See how irrational you seem?

    Hey it’s all personal thought process. 10 k all good if you’re comfortable. I do 5 k for my own reasons and that’s how I roll and will continue to do that . No blackstone labs for me
    January and July or 5 k synthetic Mobil 1 , Toyota filter done

    2014 Tacoma 040 SR5 4x4 DC SB V6 AT5 Tow Pkg Entune+ Mostly stock with a few OEM mods.
    Stock (99.999%) OEM Bed Floor Mat, Front Bed Rail Cargo Net and hooks, Auto-Dim mirror w/Compass and outside Temperature display, TRD Pro Grille, Uni-Filter air pump modification, WeatherTech floor liners f/r. (winter) OEM All-Weather floor mats (summer).
    I do it at 5k because the entrance fee was $33,000 when the truck new, $24,000 truck when I purchased it used in 2021 and it looks good for the neighborhood of $40 to $55k next year when the 4th gen 24's arrive. (nice neighborhood) and it's hopefully my last non-oil burning vehicle because I'll never be in that neighborhood: ever. $40 is a bargain for an oil and filter change when compared to the initial outlay.

    I have a turbo bmw M2. I change the oil at 4,000 miles. I drive that car hard all the time.

    With the Tacoma I would not go over 4,000 miles. Just me.

    The turbo hybrid engine in the Crown calls for 0W-20 grade, which I suspect will be what's 4th gen Tacoma going to need and that's unchanged from their 3rd gen recommended oil.
    It's interesting how the non-turbo Crown, with the same A25A-FXS, found in all other Toyota/Lexus line up, such as RAV4, Highlander Hybrid, requires JASO GLV-1 0W-8 oil. I couldn't even find ANY such oil for sale online, not even Toyota dealers have them.

    Not sure how I made that mistake, I've corrected my post.

    Other Toyotas outside of North America are using 0W-8 as well, but it hasn't been implemented on much for us yet. USA dealers should be able to get it (08880-12905), but yeah, it's not common yet.

    Man, it was painful to watch the audio's messed up, here is the summary:
    • use cheap oil and filter (as long as they meet the specs) and change every 3k miles (filter can be changed every other oil change interval) for BEST longevity
    • vary oil grade by season (e.g. 0W-40 in winter, 10W-40 in summer)
    my take away is that:
    • use better oil and filter and change it at 5k interval, because Toyota vehicles have built-in 5k service reminder, if I were to track 3k interval, that's extra work and mental load.
    • I'm going to try seasonal grade adjustment. Currently I use 0W-20 all year around in my truck, I'll try 5W-20 in the summer months and back to 0W-20 in winter

    Nah. I have test results showing no wear and suggesting even LONGER change intervals. This is 2023 and synthetic oil with millions of miles of data. 5K cult? I just see... feelings. Don't care if you think that is being a dick. So be it. I am a dick.
