I did pick up a thing of Kinetic rope, and I have an air compressor, so... I have like 2% of the stuff I need. Just really not any self recovery stuff yet, Need a bumper and winch. Just trying to get into something really light and easy as I work towards my $10,000 pay to play bill.

You can skip the bumper and wench for now… a good set of tow straps and a come-along or hi-jack will get you out of a bind for a small fraction of the cost. And you can get a set of generic traction boards on Amazon for like $50.

I do know one thing from building my truck over past couple years… parts get expensive real fast! And you don’t need the best of the best to get out and have fun. You just need to have some stuff, and be smart. The moment you push yourself past the comfort zone and push your rig past it’s abilities, well that the point of no return.

Speaking of jacks, that is on my list of things I decided is closer to “need” than “want” after my Montana trip. I don’t really know anything about them though. Would you say this one is decent? I always assumed they would cost hundreds at least, based on how expensive everything else gets.

Absolutely, a great jack. If you go to Hi-Lift’s website, you can see all the different sizes, finishes and options that are available. I believe I have the 54”? I can’t really remember… but for how great these things are to have around and how useful they are, it’s shocking to see how affordable they really are! I do highly recommend getting a boot for it. Help keep the main ratcheting mechanism free from corrosion and debris. Guess the best thing to do is first, measure out where you plan to mount it on your rig. And then get the longest jack that’ll fit in said space.

Is there any where to actually jack on the vehicle stock except the hitch? That's what's held me off getting it. I don't think I can jack on plastic or the fake side steps.

The hitch is always a pretty safe point for the rear. And a set of sliders will get you front or sides up in the air if needed. But no, on a stock rig I believe the hitch will be your only point. That said though… the come-along feature is nice. You can basically ratchet yourself out of a hole (to a certain extent)… enough to maybe get boards inter your rubber or enough traction to carry on. Any plan, even in the slightest is always better than no plan!

I’m also just now realizing this with the lack of lift points I would have on my truck since I sold my sliders. I’m thinking a beefy bottle jack might be a better option for me.

Even with a 2” lift, the OEM bottle jack still works but I suspect that once I go back to 285’s it won’t be tall enough.

Damn!!! Glad everyone is okay, that looks horrifying. What happened?

I’ve never been a jeep guy either but I have come to appreciate and like them a lot more since I got into the off roading stuff.

Absolutely, any time. I always try to extend generosity to others that i’d hope for in return if the roles were reversed. I’d hate for someone to have a miserable range day because they forgot one thing.

You werent the guy with no muzzle device on the AR, where you?

Its recommended that if you use a slider or a side step that you have a proper adapter for the jack just for that. I’ve seen people rig a strap to a wheel and lift one whole corner with a hi lift jack like that but man is it sketchy. I personally dont like and dont use them at all. If i had a fully armored truck and bigger tires, maybe i’d consider one but even when I had 33s on with my lift, I still was more than capable with my long reach floor jack to do whatever I needed to do
