Is an AGM battery worth the cost?

The battery on my Taco just went out and I'll likely be getting a new one (unless my NOCO desulfator keeps it kicking another few months like last time). With the modifications I've done and am considering, I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade to an AGM. Right now, I have:
    -240W Front LED fog lights
-A dashcam tapped into my fusebox so that it records when I park
-Occasionally run a power inverter and small air compressor when I air down on trails
Also where I live, my drives involve lots of short drives and start/stop traffic. This battery only lasted around 23 months, am I at the point where an AGM is worth the cost, or am I better off just getting a good lead acid?

    yes to agm
I wouldn't try to revive what you have
I think batteries and tires need to be in good+ condition

3rd gen tacoma isn't designed for an AGM battery. What makes one think it's an "upgrade"? AGM isn't going to charge all the way, even if you screw with the alternator. Which has it's own ramifications.

For your use AGM isn't going to add anything. AGM helps in high vibration (hard off-road etc). If you are using your truck around town etc. AGM is just more money with little gain.

you have to charge it on an agm charger periodically

I bought an AGM battery for my wife's 2017 Elantra and have not charged it.

    This deserves better research.

I'd like to buy one since the TRD Battery Tie Down I bought caused some acid to leak out (I tightened it too much).

A battery with no caps would be ideal.

An AGM won't fail catastrophic from being charged at the incorrect voltage. They slowly sulfate resulting in the capacity decreasing over time. Not using the correct charger will just shorten the usable service life of the battery.

That's good info but solid results/testing and application to various vehicles still ponders my mind.

Someone said Tacoma vehicle/engine wasn't made for an AGM battery.

I'd like to see results is all...

AGMs prefer more voltage, not upgrading it or charging it won't cause it to fail, but the AGM will last longer and perform better with a little maintenance.

People always use non-fail examples, but it's not the point.

AGM is fine for tacoma, but not ideal. I just recommend a trickle charger from time to time. (which is actually good for any battery)

Total waste of money and they require higher charging voltage.

The recommended charging voltages for the different types is very well documented. This is why chargers have a different setting for AGM vs flooded.

I'll have to look for those documented efforts.

    Thanks for my learning journey.

How goes the learning journey ed? I did about 5 minutes worth of googling and found they do in fact have different charging requirements than a standard flooded battery. Turns out there are documented efforts all over the internet on this very thing.

I'm not sold on it being a better alternative for anything except for being spill proof. If I recall, AGM took off when batteries wound up in the passenger compartment under the seat and not in the engine compartment or trunk.

Some are much lighter, also higher amp hours typically.

Almost all Toyotas use AGM now, the hybrids already did (most inside the cabin like you mentioned), but now its due to the start stop systems it seems.

They are crazy expensive, 400$ oem prices.

    lol

I'm washing my truck as we speak...I mean, type.

    You guys are hardcore. lol

My battery is still good so it will be a while before I buy AMG.

Spill/leak proof. That’s it. You decide.
