I do wish the parking brake remained manual and wish the transfer case would go back to manual. I see exactly 0 benefits to either of those being electronic and I see plenty of downsides. If anything, they could make them options at least.

They’re cheaper than twisty key ignitions. That’s why they do it.

There are also more reliable and not sure where the guy thinks that they're easier to steal because at least in a Toyota they are not easier to steal.

I never fully understood the clutch start. Cancel maneuver, just start your damn truck and drive it in first gear in four low. If you need a bump over an object, that's what the skinny pedal is for. And if you don't have room to maneuver back up and do it again. That's just my take.

One big advantage of having a turnkey over a push button is that you can have it in accessory mode when you turn the car off and not ruin your music or you can lean in and crank it over if you need to do something. One of the most annoying things in the shop is having to try and climb in and out of cars 15 times while trying to test various things to use the push start because you also have to have the break depressed. One thing I hate about my automatic with the push start, and I had this problem in the front here as well, is that when you turn the truck off it doesn't go to accessory mode and you lose your music even if you want to sit there just for a few minutes and finish the song. Is that petty and personal preference? Absolutely. But that's what creature comforts are all about and if we're charging 50 grand per vehicle or more... Then it needs to have the creature comforts that we want.

Please cite where anybody said there aren't manual transmission equipped vehicles with pushbutton start. If memory of this thread serves, the statement was, "No third gen Tacomas have been, or will be, built with both a pushbutton start and a manual transmission."

On my 15 year old BMW, key in, no feet on pedals, tap the button. You're in accessory mode.

I don't have experience with cars of all makes, but every one I've tried works identically.

Right but when you turn the car off you are not still in accessory mode so your music and radio etc cuts out right away. Whereas with the key you can back it off one notch and it turns the car off but leaves it an accessory mode so you don't lose what you're doing, but you're not torching gas for the last 2 minutes of your song.

Like I said it's just personal preference and creature comforts. But again if you're going to spend 50 grand on a car it needs to do what you want it to do.

Not the way it works on my BMW. The car stays in accessory mode until you lock it.
Sounds like everyone should be taking note of a 20 year old car model. lol.

Personally I don't think it's the button itself, it's what comes with it, namely proximity/smart key. In the pushbutton trucks you can walk up and the door unlocks when you pull on the handle, sit down and push the start button and it's running. No fumbling with the keys.

Hardly a life altering feature, but I will admit that when I'm hauling stuff I to my truck at the end of the day often times both hands are full. In that case the doors would be nice. If the truck is unlocked I get in and set my stuff down, then flop around to get in a position to get the keys out of my pocket, here just pushing the button and going would also be nice. Hardly difficulties in life but just like a sunroof, you don't need it, but it is nice to have

the toughest part is when your wife has a car that does that and your Tacoma doesn't - can't count the number of times I've made that mistake

Or when you have two Tacomas and one of them has that feature and the other one doesn't... :anonymous:

My wife's car has a 6MT and pushbutton start, my Tacoma has a 6MT and a key; can't say I've ever made that mistake.

The above said, my previous car had a 6MT also, but Reverse was to the right of 6th gear instead of to the left of 1st gear (which is how my wife's car is configured); I cannot tell you how many times I put her car into 6th when I was looking for Reverse. Now that both cars have the same shift pattern, I haven't made that mistake in months.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Y'all should have a chance to start up a S2000 as it requires you to both turn the key and push the start button to start the engine.

My neighbor (growing up) had a T100 that required that as well. I was mowing his yard and needed to move his truck, he asked if I knew how to drive (I was 15). Said yes, got in and flipped the key to crank. Figured it was just a really quiet engine because I couldn’t hear it but the AC and music had kicked on so I couldn’t tell. New to driving so didn’t know enough to really tell.

Put it in D and had no brakes or gas. Started rolling down his driveway into the street and in front of a car. Luckily I had steering, and was able to get it turned and parked by a curb. Thankfully the car coming stopped in time. Neighbor didn’t see any of it, also luckily. Finally figured it out once I was parked. Fun times lol.

What I find silly are all the manual transmission ‘assist’ features newer vehicles/Tacomas have. The hill start assist, clutchless start, anti stall…etc.. What’s next, it automatically makes the first shift for you then verbally apologizes if you miss the 2nd shift, even though it was your fault…then offers to make the 3rd shift for you so you save face when you screw that one up too? Not sure this is going to make anyone a better manual driver…lol.

Good thing the antistall and clutchless starts are something you can turn off.

It would be nice if hill start assist was selectable.
