LS6 Swap 2nd Gen Build + New Tundra

yeah i wouldn't mount the ecu under the hood to begin with.... keep those important electronics under the dash... i've seen how caked my engine bay can get hitting the desert and i wouldn't trust that it will stay sealed 100% of the time...

 

Im struggling to find a good place to mount in on the interior.

 

I bolted mine to the a pillar under the dash, but if you pulled ur airbag from the pass side just make some tabs off the dash bar there.

 

I kept the airbag system intact on the truck, but that has me thinking. Wonder If I can mount it to the backside of the glove box or something. I'll need to do some digging I guess. I'll worry about it after the engine is mounted. These mounts need to get done.

 

Every single time I work on the truck I feel like I get farther and farther away from finishing it. It’s defeating.

Anyways, I got the harness clipped down to the essentials for what I need. I’ll mesh insulate everything and make it look nice once material comes in
I got the wheel speed sensors installed:

man, what a PITA with the double sheer steering tabs and spindle gusset. Had to turn my 10mm gear wrench into a gimp:
Zip tied the wheel speed sensor and brake lines together and cleaned them up:


And modified my glovebox hella to accommodate the Holley. Atleast it’ll be protected from the elements now.


All that done tonight and still feels like I got myself nowhere.

 

that’s it, only the access cabs and regular cabs have it I believe, double cabs do not although the harness is prewired for it

Ah yup you are correct double cabs did not have the switch because you would never put a child's car seat in the front seat of double cab when you have the back seat to use. The on/off allows you to put a car seat in the front safely.

 

Can someone bigger brain than me answer this?

I just realized the only pigtail im using off of the engine room harness is the ac compressor, which is making me think it’s not worth having that bundle of shit in there just to activate the ac compressor. What it I instead ran the ac clutch to my switch pros and just completely removed the engine room harness? Could I also remove the ECU at that point? Or better to leave the computers in place to run the rest of the truck but just unplug the engine room harness?

edit: I just realized I need to keep it for the fuse box connections in the engine bay, or is that not needed? I guess I need to see if the starter signals are sent to the fuse box through that harness.

you don’t need the Toyota engine harness or ecu. Without everything else in place the ecu won’t have the conditions to turn the a/c on anyways. Just run a wire from your Holley to do that.

 

what about the connectors that go from the ecu to the factory fuse box? Won’t I need those to get the starter and immobilized etc etc working?

 

immobilizer is part of the ecu and won’t do anything anymore. And I can give you the pin out for connections to the factory box to make that work. It’s only like 4 pins needed in that side

 

Yeah can you share details about what you mean and how you did it?

Right now, I think my immobilizer would still work since I haven't removed any of that stuff and still have the harness.

Really I'm just interested in keeping the factory ignition cylinder, ABS, windshield wiper controls etc. I don't want to lose any of that stuff, I just don't need the engine control.

here’s where the wires come through the firewall. 2” hole with a grommet.

going to wire up all of the inputs and outputs, so it’s theoretically plug and play to get the engine running.

 

If you don’t power wash and clean up that truck while it’s torn apart im gonna have to unfollow this…it’s making my ocd twitch

 

Dude I’ve tried, it’s stained. Idk what to use lmao.

 

Grab some Meguires diamond cut rubbing compound and just use it by hand with a rag it should come out pretty easily. You need a heavy cut compound not just a typical light swirl remover etc. That diamond cut works miracles...

 

I bought some hella heavy duty degreaser. We’ll see what happens. Kinda wanna do the motor too, but I’m worried about causing myself problems.

 

the immobilizer works by the ecu not allowing the engine to start, without doing some weird stuff theres no way to make the holley do that...theres probably a way with using a factory gm ecu but not worth the hassle. and if you look in your drivers side fuse box there is one plug in there that you will pin into. if i have more time in the next couple days i'll see if i can find some pictures of said connector and which pins are needed. but its not alot and then behind the glove box is where you would make some other connections for ign source and dash stuff but since your going with the holley dash those aren't needed.

 

Mount a second one while you are at it because they like to fail at the worst times
