A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, or is it a bush in the hand....never mind. Lost my concentration there.

My coffee stash at work; I got Black Rifle pods at Cabela's yesterday! There were many choices, but I opted for
three; Beyond Black, Gunship, and Just Black...

I almost went medieval on a drone a few days ago; Amanda and I were walking Porter around my neighborhood, and this quadcopter drone appeared out of nowhere. Initially, we thought nothing of it, but then it became obvious that the damn thing was following us. Not only was it following us, but it was hovering right over our heads at times; I looked directly into the camera mounted to the bottom of the drone and flipped it off...

The damn thing kept following us, and it became really unnerving. When the drone was directly above us another time, I said "I don't know if that camera has a microphone, but if you can hear me, let it be known that I will grab my baseball bat out of the garage and destroy this thing if it follows me home.

The still unknown pilot followed me home, and at this point, I went into my garage with the full intention of destroying their drone; I couldn't find my baseball bat, so I grabbed a wooden paddle that I found. My mom happened to come out and asked when I was doing. When I said a few profanities and started that I was going to destroy the drone that was harassing me and Amanda, she tried to stop me.

By this time, the drone was gone and nowhere to be found, but Amanda had caught up with me and told me that the drone had gotten at eye level with her. My neighbor is the head of the HOA and I plan on telling him about this.

If this drone or any other drone comes after me again, I will knock it out of the sky with my bat and then drive over it with my truck for good measure. No, I will not be reimbursing the owner for the drone if I destroy it. The moral of the story is that if you don't want your drone destroyed, you'd better not harass me and my girlfriend with it; I will even ziptie it to the front of my truck and display it like a trophy.

Have you ever been chased by a drone before? In addition to triggering my sensory overload, it was just uncalled for. The operator chased us from almost the entry to my neighborhood all the way back to my house, and then they went after my girlfriend while I was in the garage looking for my bat; I will destroy the drone if it comes after me again, and that's a promise, not a threat...

    Steps to remedy.

    1. Stop where you are
    2. Pull out pocket cellular device
    3. Dial local PD non emergency line
    4. “Dispatcher, I am being chased by a drone and feel unsafe, please advise”
    5. Uhh, go eat some Chick Fil A? :D

That fifth one would definitely work for Amanda. She LOVES Chick-Fil-A, but unfortunately the one in my town is closed for renovation...

All of the apartments in the apartment complex where my girlfriend lives have electric range/ovens with coil burners; I have not lived in a house with a coil stove since 2007 (in fact both houses my parents have owned since 2007 have had a gas cooktop), and after observing last week how unevenly a pot sat on the burner at my girlfriend's neighbor's apartment while he was cooking, I can tell you right now that if I bought a house with a coil stove I would save up my money and replace it with a smoothtop. Coil burners look outdated and ugly, they are an absolute bitch to clean, and they just don't cook evenly in my opinion.

I would choose gas over electric every time, but if gas was unavailable, I would go with a smoothtop because they look better and are far easier to clean.

My parents have owned six houses since 1988, and five of those have had gas heat, but only three of those have had a gas stove for some reason. The house in Virginia Beach had gas heat and a gas fireplace, but it had an electric stove. My parents have also rented two houses from my dad's Navy buddies (one in Washington state and one here in Southeast PA), and when we lived in California the second time, we lived in two Navy-owned houses. The Navy houses had electric heat, electric stoves, and no A/C (it really wasn't needed).

All of the houses we've lived in with electric stoves have had coil burners; I have absolutely no memory of the house my parents bought in Milpitas, California since I wasn't born when they bought it and barely over a year old when we moved out, but my dad says it had electric baseboard heat and it definitely did not have A/C. My dad does not remember whether the Milpitas house had a coil stove or a smoothtop, but it was definitely an electric range; I'm assuming since the house was built in like 1978 and had been minimally updated at the time my parents bought it in 1988, it did not have a built-in microwave.

Of all the homes my parents actually owned from 1990 to 2005, only the house in Virginia Beach did not have built-in microwave over the stove. It had a freestanding electric range with a vent hood above it, and that house was only two years old at the time, so my parents didn't see any point in replacing nearly new appliances. Every other house my parents owned prior to 2007 had an electric range with a microwave above it. The two rental houses in Oak Harbor, Washington (rented 2000-2002) and Doylestown, PA (rented 2005-2007) both had over-the-range microwaves as well.

The townhouse in Furlong had a gas cooktop with downdraft ventilation, and a microwave/oven combo built into the cabinet between the cooktop and refrigerator. My parents bought this house in April or May 2007 when it was still being built, we moved in around Labor Day Weekend of that year, and we lived there until March 2016.

My parents bought the house we are in now in November or December 2015, and we moved into that house in either March or April of 2016 if I remember correctly. This house has a single built-in wall oven with a separate built-in microwave above it, and a separate gas cooktop with a powerful ventilation hood directly above it.

Agreed. Electric coil stoves suck, but I like my glass smoothtop electric

I really like the idea of an induction cooktop/range based on what I've read about them, but you have to buy special cookware, and it ain't cheap...

    :spending:

The pots and pans my parents have will work on a gas stove, and either a coil stove or a smoothtop!

I’ve cleaned my share of coil tops.
Getting the coil tray and coil stabbed back in correctly can be a pain.
The majority of the time, when the coil is uneven, the coil tray is the culprit.

I think any cookware that is magnetic works on induction cooktops, so you should be good to go.

Also, I've seen smoothtop stoves at full power and there is obviously a coil element under the glass surface. Does this lift up for access if a coil fails or the range otherwise needs to be serviced? As I said above, I've never lived in a house with a smoothtop stove, so I know very little about servicing them. If I owned a house that didn't have public natural gas, and if for whatever reason I couldn't get a propane tank, I would choose smoothtop over coil every time.

On another note, I have friend in West Virginia who is a multimillionaire. His primary residence is all electric, and he could easily afford to put in propane. However, propane apparently requires more venting than natural gas, and he chooses to keep the electric cooktop because it is easier.

I still prefer gas. If a house I buy comes with an induction cooktop/stove, then so be it, but induction is more expensive than radiant (conventional electric)...

Why do you prefer electric? Any competent chef will tell you that gas is far superior and cooks better!
