I thought I had an issue with my regulator; turns out my threads were dirty from the bottle after pulling it off as well as my lines.

Was on the phone as Gene answered and he just quickly said "yeah no worries I'll get one out to you"

He used his caller ID to pull me up and instantly placed an order for a new regulator before I even asked for anything. My real reason for calling was inquiring about something else.

Really you can`t beat that for customer service!!

I just hope growing pains don`t curtail that level of service.

Had a few minutes to myself so thought I'd weld on the casters, weld in the block off tabs for the chain, and get it all together

    20230527_160701.jpg

Still need to attach a tool holder, filller rod holder, and whatever else I feel is needed specifically for my TIG welding.

Found the plasma cutter on Facebook market place. Turns out the guy selling it is Dustin and that I live pretty close to the primeweld warehouse. Happy to realize its a legit post.

Definitely going to pick this up next week.

Yep, he and Gene are the go-tos if you ever need anything.

Something tells me you're in New Jersey; only local folk get to take advantage of their refurbs and clearance stuff.

Maybe @dvalente98 can make a shout out for me when he picks up his new machine.

Read the post, that's what I said I'm doing :luvya:

But I'll be going cheap and using PVC pipe to hold the filler rods.

I'll need to look up ideas on 'storage' to make better use of the unused space up top and below.

The biggest expense in making that cart is in the casters.

Yea I'm in NJ. My buddy lives five minutes from the Prime Weld place so I can see myself making many "stops on the way" every time I head down to his house.

I'll certainly let Dustin know you sent me, if you want.

Your using PVC pipe with a screw on cap ?

I keep all my different flavor tig rods in those tubes color coded for material.

All salvaged on jobs that finished all the consumables get tossed for the most.

Nothing like dust and grit you can`t see on your tig rods.

I had a customer that almost went crazy no matter what they did the welds were shit.

Even though they tried cleaning them . Some Jobs were quite strict on what chemicals were allowed.

**** Never ever go cheap on casters!!!! The money you save will never come close to compensate for the frustration.

I will, just haven't bought it yet as I want to make the little pipe holder on the side after I figure a grab handle and tool holder first.

As for tungsten rods, I'm not fancy like you and get away just fine with using either red or blue on mild :luvya: don't foresee myself doing stainless as it's not a demand at all (so far).

And I agree on the caster part, but to an extent. I'll want some nicer casters for my press but the mini cart will suffice with cheap Harbor Freight variants.

What are you up to and welding these days? We need more welding pics in this thread :luvya:

Not Tungsten !!! ( typo on your part)

The Tig Filler rods those nice 36" long you need to keep clean.

I tripped over the Evil Spawn of Satan The concrete broke my fall i don`t think I hurt the concrete . Everything hurts my knees are shot to begin with.

Does walking past the welder count?

    Oh of course!

That's why I need that pvc pipe (with cap) to keep them clean!

Not like it gets too dirty in my garage anyway :anonymous:

Still lots to learn and tinker with, havent even started beveling with the new machine, but i guess this will be good enough for now...

(Doing this from the phone so I apologize if pics are huge or tiny)

We still have some work to do on lead-ins to smooth them out (bottom of second pic), and this is without looping exterior corners so we can sharpening those up easily. Tolerances are currently plus / minus 0.025". The quality of the gantry motion left me literally speechless when it first fired up ... a few thousand pounds of gantry moving at 1200 in/min, completely silently, and with zero slack was far above the expectation. It makes our other tables seem like a toy.

We are also fine tuning the level of the water table while cutting to find the right balance between fume control and bottom edge re-work. Hy-def plasma (or in this case X-Definition ... power source is a Hypertherm XPR 170) is extremely sensitive to water level. The extra fine dross droplets cool rapidly and can weld to the back edge more easily than with standard plasma but the tolerances, edge quality, and speed are exceptional. Downdraft fume control is actually preferred for hy-def and X-def but due to facility constraints and the extreme desire to reduce noise pollution, I opted for the water table. (The multicam V-series system this replaced was a downdraft with a dedicated Donaldson Torit DFE 3-6 and functioned very well, but was insanely loud within the space and couldn't economically be moved outside). So we are fine tuning the water level for these thicker parts (pics are 3/8) but are currently cutting about 1-1/4" below the plate. This will cut 90% in the 3/16 to 1" range or any beveling that needs to be, with 3/8 to 3/4 accounting for 75% of its cutting.

Edit: 3/8" A36 mild steel, 130 amps, 110 In / min, O² plasma cut gas @ 92 psi, compressed Air shield gas @ 77 psi .... but all of those settings are preprogrammed and controlled through the software and the VWI gas console, so there is no manual adjustment. We have O², N², and Ar manifolded into the system with two stage regulators to maintain the 115 Psi +- 5 input pressure requirements.

We could actually increase some edge quality and tolerancing by cutting at the 80 amp setting and using manual inputs rather than the production charts. Our factory install tech, within 5 cuts with manual settings (and 15 years of experience under his belt with hy-def and x-def machines) had some production 1/4" parts within 0.012" of specification ... we wont get close to that in production, nor do we need to. But it is nice to know we can get that tight if we have to (with brand new consumables, a few test cuts, and for only a handful of pierces before we have to make more test cuts and adjustments, so it really isnt worth it ...thats what the laser will be for in 2025)

Pics look great on this end. Can zoom in and see wonderful detail...or lack of detail because those cuts look great!

I am not sure what you mean by Light up??

Do you mean power up so the display lights up??

    Maybe you mean initiate output?
