Wheel Hubs/Bearings

Anyone using the Blue Pit Bearing/Hubs? One of my front bearings is bad and I am looking at replacing both at the same time. I haven't seen much about these other than Lifestyle Overland using them on the 4Runner.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Nothing wrong with those except the outrageous price. I can't believe they are still in business. All they are doing is buying $100 worth of parts, doing $10 worth of labor and pocketing $150 for each one they sell. For me personally, I would buy the bearings and keep my OE hubs unless there is something wrong with them. It would be less expensive, but obviously more work if you have to take them to a shop to have them pressed in.

If you are looking for assemblies, I would get the SKF from Rock Auto for $102. You can get three for the price of what they are selling one for. When it comes to bearings, I love SKF and Timken. SKF are made in Japan as are the Koyo bearings that Blue Pit is using. Timken make some in China so check before buying.

 

^The SKF hub bearing assys are made in China. Nonetheless I still buy and use them. No point in sticking with OEM NSK when mine failed at 26,000 miles.

 

My 1992 Toyota truck had Timken wheel bearings from the factory, they were an OEM supplier for Toyota back then. When I sold the truck with 180k on it all 4 original bearings were in it and in good shape. My opinion of their products is good.


I can't help with Blue Pit bearings though, never used them.

 

Are the bearings made in China for the assemblies? I haven't bought those because I press my own and know that the bearings when bought alone are made in Japan.

They are still $50 more than SKF. Why would you pay more? They look like a shade tree company. Not that it is rocket science when it comes to using a press, this line on their website scares me "The maker of the bearings and hubs is a Toyota Master Technician." They are not making anything. They are assembling parts and anyone who advertises they are a "Master Technician" always concerns me. Kind of like how real navy seals don't go around saying they are seals.

I just installed driver side from yotabearings last night. Koyo “made in Japan” bearing pressed very nicely in skw “made in china” hub which is supposed to be the equivalent to dorman hub. No issues seemed to be made as well as oem nsk. Also came with o ring installed which I was glad to see bc my oem one was chewed up a little

Dorman 950-001 from Autozone online for $124 shipped? They have a 20% off orders over $125 before discount. The last Dorman hub assy I bought had a Koyo bearing in it if I'm not mistaken.

Spoke with Dorman this morning. According to them, the 950-001 hub/bearing assembly uses an OEM supplier bearing.

 

You've got a terrible business model if you think your time doing this is only worth 10 bucks.

 

IMO the blue pit stuff is extremely overpriced especially with the parts they use. You are buying the name and when they take a shit you yourself are SOL. Ask me I know.
I’ve done a few sets for friends with quality bearings for a fraction of the cost of Blue or anyone else claiming $400 for a bearing, outrageous.

 

I'm guessing you have never pressed a bearing. It is literally 5 minutes worth of work and if you are doing it in mass quantities, it probably isn't that long. I don't know what your time is worth, but if you are making more than $120 an hour doing that kind of work, you are killing it.

The bluepit name is nothing. It is some guy working out of his garage. I will give it to him that he figured out a few years ago that Toyota had an issue with wheel bearings and figured out that people were willing to pay more to buy an assembly that they could quickly swap since most people don't have a press available. Without a press, you would have to drop your old parts off at a shop and come back and pick them up. When you add in the press work cost and the taxi or case of beer for your neighbor to take you there and back twice, it wasn't so bad paying for a new assembly. Not to mention that your truck was sitting on jackstands for at least a day, maybe two. Now days pretty much all parts suppliers offer assemblies at a more reasonable price, but bluepit somehow still finds customers.

 

All i’m saying is there’s other options available with “better” parts, with a more complete kit out there for a lot cheaper.

Blue Pit can charge as he likes but when compared to others you’re getting a more superior product for less.

Worth noting that Toyota transitioned from Koyo to NSK for the front bearings about a decade ago. I'm offering practically the same product you'd receive from the dealership for 1/3 of the price.

 

How much are yours? I found these on ebay for $280 shipped guy has good reviews.
