Went out yesterday on Memorial Day itself to get some more murals. Amazingly enough the first one I had planned, knowing only that a mural was at this address but not what it was, turned out to be this one.

The above is actually a bus shelter for kids waiting for their school bus in Coaldale, PA. All the walls were encouraging harder work from the miners.

    The Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville.

Old "ghost" murals for Coca Cola and Mail Pouch count too.

I didn't understand the hype till I got one. Well Husky but same shit. Goddamn capable and light. I actually got mine all prepped for Durty Dabbers this weekend.

This is someones footage from last year. I am stoked for the hero section that starts at 17:27 because I was too tired and skipped it last year.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cgai_pwUqxI

Last year my only goal was to complete the main course and do SOME hero's if I was feeling froggy. This year I am hoping my endurance and riding have improved so I can complete it and do ALL the hero sections as well.

    I have a dilemma - I really want a Grom to learn how to wheelie/stunt but I also don't want to spend $4k+ on a 2022+ but I also want a 5 speed...

I wouldn't let the 4sp vs 5sp thing stop you if you can find a good deal on a used older model one. There's an issue with some of the 5speeds that keeps showing up with a too-tight of tolerance on the 2nd gear shaft causing a whining noise and overheating of a bearing internally. Until they resolve that I honestly don't know if I'd recommend the new ones.

Hmm, good to know, thanks! I'm trying to find one under $3k but pickings are very slim. It will undoubtedly get dropped so not worth spending a lot on a new one.

I'd still keep the Navi for sure since they'd serve different purposes.

Get a cheap dirt bike, maybe one that already has some SM tires. That’s the best way…then you can drop it to all hell and back, and you’re good to go. Sell it after you master your wheelie or whatever your stunt needs are. Trust me, the grom is gonna bend and break stuff off.

Damn, the way he comes over the bridge and purposely lifts the back end up to kick it out and back her in is sexy.

Havent ridden a 5spd grom, but never had an issue with my 4 speed (other than the clutch collar being glazed over from the previous owner sitting at stop lights in gear with the clutch pulled for EXTENDED periods). 15 bucks in parts to replace the clutch basket collar and throw out bearing while i was in there tapping the clutch basket for 3 more pressure plate bolts and installing stiffer clutch springs was a no brainer.

There are different primary reduction ratios and final drive (chain and sprockets stock), but overall to the tire STOCK the 5 speed has ~ a 13% lower first gear and an 8% taller 5th with a better more consistent spread of gears. That stated, even my BBK grom cant pull through its 4 speed tallest gear, no way its pulling through one 8% taller. Would I mind lower cruising rpms and an easier take off in first, not at all that would be great. But its 100% not a reason for me to sell my 4speed grom and buy a 5 speed.

Also i might be biased but i like the high mount exhaust better on the OG groms.

Now, if i was looking to buy a grom for stunting, id probably look elsewhere cus the groms get a price premium. If you desired a street legal pit bike to beat on etc, the z125 might be a cheaper option

I have a DRZ400E that I'm trying to sell. It's not plated so I can't really practice on the street, and it's a tall bike, which makes it feel more intimidating.

I'm looking at Z125s now since they're about $1k+ cheaper.

Right on. Makes sense to me, if you can get out into a field do that.

    So remember these steps.
In order to wheelie it’s a transfer of loading the suspension(pushing down on the pegs) head up looking forward, pulling the bars to your chest, and clutching it with just enough gas to get you up.

You can separate the actions then combine them as well:
For instance, put a small stick out in the yard. This is what you’re going to wheelie. Start off by simply rolling over it, but each time load the bikes suspension and pull up on the bars.
Then a few times roll up to it, and clutching it & gassing it a bit just before you get to the stick. You will essentially just do a small spin out over the stick.

Stick the two together once you have gotten a good feel for both.

If your trying to get over an obstacle, you need to do all the steps above, no less than a tires distance from said obstacle.

Wheelies don’t need speed to be accomplished. It’s weight transfer and a blip!
