I am pretty sure in one of the video's l saw they said you could turn off/on the hill start.

 

We'll see how good it is. I've only had one vehicle that had it (Ford) and I didn't care for it. Held the brakes on for too long and forced the use of more throttle than was necessary. I turned it off.

 

I had a 2015 Mustang GT manual and hill start assist was mutable. I hated that feature mostly because I couldn't learn to work with it...even steep hills really aren't a problem if you're well practiced

 

Clutch Start Cancel has been on MT Toyota trucks since at least the '80s, if not longer. Damned handy to have around, if the conditions warrant it.

 

Good thing the clutch cancel switch has been around since the early '80s... As far as the hill hold assist, that's currently only offered on the sport and it is not detrimental in any way shape or form.

 

The only thing I use the CSC for is when I want to start it without having to get in to push the clutch pedal down. For that it has been very useful! I only wish that light would go out after you start it or after a while. I hate that it stays on until you next turn the truck off, especially at night.

 

Yeah, not a fan of the light staying on. In my frontier, hitting the clutch pedal after it started nixxed the light.

 

Some people just like to complain I suppose. At the boat ramp I would be thankful for hill assist.

 

I had a '17 MK7 GTI that had it. I loved it as it was executed wonderfully. No extra throttle needed to overcome it. I wish sometimes the Tacoma had it, but it does have the handbrake if needed.

 

I've had both a Sport and OR. I didn't mind the hill start assist on the Sport, but don't really miss it on the OR.

 

The things that truck guys consider new weird or unproven tech still baffles me a bit, honestly. My 2008 135 has hill hold assist, that's a 15 year old example of a 20 year old model that has that feature. It's great.

 

Surprised to hear this about hill assist. It's standard on my 2014. It works seamlessly even on steep inclines.

 

I had it on a 1985 Subaru GL 4x4. I liked it. That car was actually 4WD, not AWD. It had a lever on the floor to engage 4WD.

 

First time my Sport did the hill assist thing I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting it and I still think it's cool as hell!

I only used csc to start my truck when it was cold so I didn’t have to climb inside

pts is nice but I mostly want the proximity key. It’s nice to just grab the handle and get in. Or hop out and tap to lock.

you can turn it off into accessory mode. Just keep the truck in drive and hit the button, then shift to park. Did that all the time on my 16.

 

I do miss the proximity key features my 2021 had. Never had to take the "key" out of my pocket. Although I like the keyed ignition for accessory use listening to the radio before going into work. The push button one would turn off right in the middle of a good song.

 

Genuinely makes no sense for it to be a feature on the sport and not the OR. Guess Toyota thinks that ORs never end up on hills?

 

I’ve not had hill assist in any of my vehicles but the ones I’ve driven with it I’m not a huge fan. I’ve driven a couple cars with it and I’m sure you get used to it, but its somewhat unpredictable and unexpected.

This I never understood... Or why the off-road access cab could only have an automatic in the US but got a manual option in Canada and yet the double cab did not get a manual option in Canada...

Unpredictable? You literally just... Don't roll back. Like put off the brake clutch in drive forward just like you're on flat ground. Nothing unpredictable about that.

 

I find at time it is unpredictable, a hill just around the corner from my house, it is 50 - 50 if it will turn on. I have had it not turn on, move with traffic 10 feet and then had it turn on... I know it's just the angle of this hill, but I drive on it daily.
