The great thing about MTD built stuff is the abundance of options for parts, with some of the premium brands you run in to the dealer being your only option.

The only problem is trying to adapt it to this thing. The Kohler on there currently has the "crank" coming out the front like a PTO, with the one coming out the rear (like normal) chopped off. I think they make a front PTO adapter, but I'm not sure how strong it would be. All it's spinning is a hydraulic pump, so possibly. I think to rebuild the current bong smoker Kohler is like $300 in parts, so that may be the route to go.

These guys have all the weird adapters needed for a flywheel drivel pto. They even have a base adapter, since the predator 670 crank is located lower than a Kohler crank Screenshot_20230529-211726.jpg

I saw some of those. BTW, when the Hell did the 670 get to $1,000!? Last I looked it was $699 o_O

    I am aware!

I've been waiting for them to go on sale. All the stores in my state have 2-4 motors on the shelf. Of course the 25% holiday coupon was not valid with these motors. Gonna watch close for fathers day.

This is nice to know about, you couldn't have the adapter made at a local shop for twice that.:thumbsup:

    Earthworking today.

When you need a backhoe, but you don’t have one you have to improvise.

Burying the gutter drain extension in the ground. The soil here is a really thick hard clay, it’s a real bitch to dig in. But with a little help from the auger, it was a lot easier.

Do you not get much rain? How's that going to work without the drain daylighted?

We get a fair bit of rain. At the end of the pipe, the hole it's drilled down and filled with rock for the water to drain into. The ground below is less hard-packed than the surface. The water should seep into the ground below the foundation of the house. We'll find out if I went deep enough at the next hard rain. :fingerscrossed:

If the water doesn't drain fast enough, I'll dig the topsoil back out above the rock and put in a flush drain to cover the rock, which will allow the water to spill out of the top when the rock is over-saturated.

If I had tried to dig that out by hand, I think I'd still be digging or had a heart attack.

Interesting idea. I'm skeptical the ground will absorb it fast enough to keep up with a good rain but that'll be pretty cool if it does. Good thinking on using the auger to trench  I'm a big fan of hydraulics and horsepower

Found this guy's YouTube channel. He rebuilds engines, big machines and stuff like that. Here's an old Toro Wheel Horse rider that's been laid up for years that he got running again.

I decided this year to try not use my 32hp Kubota for mowing, just to minimize hrs. Had this 1720 New Holland 4x4 for several years and decided to see if it was up to the task. All I use it for is pulling limbs and such since I got no FEL or any other attachments. PO was a church and all they ever used it for was mowing.

The lower links to the rear diff were a rusted, frozen mess. Was going to cut the ends off and fab up some replacements re-using the ends, so I could actually post some welding pics (instead of plasma cutting) in "Anything Welding". But, time mgmt got the better of me :anonymous: and I headed to Rural King.

After hooking it up, quick trial in some 4' tall grass, down to 1600 rpm she was still chugging along.

i sharpen my blade every other use. about every 10hrs. i screw it to a block of wood and use 80grit on my angle grinder. works great. belt sander works too. grease the main shaft, i assume it has zerks. most important is the drive belt tension. must be very snug. the momentum of the chipper is needed to get the motor up to speed. if my belt is loose its impossible to start mine. wear goggles/face shield and ear plugs. ask me how i know.

    Well, shit!

This block has helicoils installed in the bolt holes. I stripped out the coils tightening down the head. Didn't even get to 10ftlbs. And that sinking feeling was felt. 3 of the 4 are already drilled and tapped for coils that pulled when I tightened it down. I'm thinking this is gonna be a scrap block. Haven't even got to the #2 side.

Whoever changed the gaskets either used shitty coils or just tightened the fucker until it felt right.

I knew I was in trouble when I removed the head bolts and they were only slightly tighter than snug.PXL_20230603_181615581.jpg
