I had to post that one. sums it up nicely. the scenery and terrain/elevation climb, the exhaustion, hatred, excitement, sadness, pain.. lol

 

Just re-looked at your pics, that mini propane cylinder is just begging to be painted like a lego figure's head

 

Bummed I missed the hike, but that just means we gotta go back. Glad everyone was safe and had fun!

 

Someone already beat us to that.. lol. I had thought about it. Might put some googley eyes on it instead.

Yeeeeeah... This might be one of those one and done hikes for me. Lol

 

Well, I think the rear end is going. For sure the pinion bearings.. but I ordered a complete 3rd from ECGS regardless. Didnt want any surprises so figured just replace it all while I'm tearing into it. About 6 weeks out though unfortunately.

 

3rd member shipped.. should be here tomorrow.

Going to run around this week to grab supplies and materials needed, get the Taco in the backyard. Maybe start tearing into it this weekend.

 

Replacement 3rd from ECGS is in. Thanks to @Yacob_D @prise and Q for the help and chillin.

All of the ring gear bolts were loose. 2 were backed out completely and one of them was about to grenade the whole thing as it was making contact (the sound I was hearing) and wearing into the pinion bearing caps and whatever else in its way in the housing as it rotated around. This 3rd has been in the truck for 6 years now. There were no signs of loctite.. but it has been through the ringer and seen some heat.. so maybe the loctite finally failed. New 3rd has locks on the ring gear bolts so definitely some peace of mind there that this shouldn't happen again. Was good to actually find something wrong too.. glad it wasn't for nothing and also caught it before it left us stuck somewhere. Need to get the driveshaft balanced, but it needed it anyway after candy striping it at KOH. After everything and replacing the dead battery from it sitting, I'm glad to have it back on the road. Time for break in and some trips!

 

Wow, what a find. You certainly were blessed not to have that fail completely out in the country.

 

Definitely would have ruined a trip/vacation.. lol

Damn! I wish I had an area to back the truck into the backyard so the damn HOA would leave me alone.

 

hahaha. I hear ya. Luckily, we live in a no HOA community, but I still wanted it in the backyard. Put the RV gate in a couple years ago now.

 

Thats so nice...

I did complete a full LS swap in my driveway with only 2 warnings from the HOA, no fines, so ill call that a win.
