I believe the maximum tow rating on the 2024 Tundra is: 12,000 lbs. It's no slouch. For comparison the max tow rating on an F150 is 14,000 lbs

Pretty insane. ICE technology has come a long way. That is why we can discard the 2.4 turbo as being a good engine. The fact that lexus and other Toyotas are using the same engine without any issues so far it’s encouraging

You would have tow an electric Tacoma to the trail with a 3rd or 2nd gen Tacoma. The electric Tacoma would need a recharge by the time you drove it to the trail. How many hours on average does it take to drive to the trail? How many hours on average does a trail ride last? How many hours is the electric Tacoma battery rated for?

You can see into the future to see how much range the truck that isn't out yet will go for? For all we know the range will be 600 miles

Many people here panicking without any reason on the hybrid system as if Tacoma would be the first hybrid engine toyota produces. People chill out. Hybrid system is well proven especially with Toyota. The warranty on the hybrid components is actually more than the regular ice engine (8 years 100k miles). Hell there are reports on a Florida man that lost a Highlander hybrid with the flooding of the hurricane last year and the car had a million miles. It was only killed by a hurricane. Toyota went and gave him a brand new Highlander hybrid when they heard the story.
Same thing was said when the. 3.5 came out on 2016 and people where bitching and moaning that the 4.0L was discontinued on the Tacoma and the 3.5 was a Camry engine and it turned out to be a reliable engine as well , lower torque but reliable. Let’s just wait until the damn truck comes out and if you don’t want hybrid, buy turbo only option, if you don’t want the turbo buy a 23 now. You have choices no one is forcing you.

but it won't be 600 miles. Other EV manufacturers, and other manufacturers who have been involved in EV development far longer that Toyota do not have a 600 mile range battery pack. Toyota isn't coming out of nowhere with a longer range BEV.

There aren't any manufactures that build a capable BE ORV, not one you can drive to the trail, explore the trail, and drive home during a single continuous 24 hr period. It's not a Toyita issue, it's an EV issue.

    Name 5 that can
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.
    5.

The issue isn't miles, it's how many hours can you get out of a single charge.

The non hybrid is plenty for a midsize truck. 310-317 ft lbs tq at 1700 is great! And really…the current V6 278 tq is more than enough, it just comes on too high in the rpm range for doing truck stuff.

Honestly the hybrid max is overkill. Though for the Tacoma Bro target market too much is never enough. Heard it comes with a lifetime script for viagra. :D You can get speeding tickets in the lowly 243 tq SR just as easily as the Pro.

I think the problem is some people think Toyota just makes stuff, sells it, and hopes for the best. I see American car companies doing that but not Toyota. They will R and D for years.

Yeah I've never seen one. BEV don't make for good OR trucks, not something you would want a Tacoma to accomplish. The only thing out there is a Rivian, nice truck that utilizes the current advancements in EV technology. You can't accomplish much OR time in a Rivian, what's the maximum amount of time a Rivian can spend on the trail? How many miles can you travel during that time?

Yet there are no stats available. The new style of battery could be less efficient. I doubt there is going to be a substantial gain in output from this new style battery.

It's a 250 mile round trip from where I live to the most popular offroad trails in the state. It would make zero sense to use an EV to drive there and drive that vehicle on the trails. Green energy, clean energy, renewable energy what ever you want to call it, it has to be a workable soloution, for it to be viable.
