RCI mid-height bed rack + awning mount + 270 awning

Has anyone tried the above combination ? I’ve already got the mid-height rack and am wondering if I use the RCI awning mounts with a 270 awning, will it be tall enough to clear the rear door and also just be tall enough to stand under in general ?

 

I am not sure, but for reference, the Peregrine 270 awning is 88" (7'4") when stowed, which means you'll have a lot of overhang.

 

I've got the KB Voodoo mid height rack on tonneau brackets. Had to make my own awning brackets though. These are repurposed countertop brackets, ha. Originally went with 12" brackets (which I need to sell now) but my awning is too thick and my rear door kept rubbing on it. So I swapped them out for 14" ones. All good now but I haven't taken any good pics yet. Overland Vehicle Systems 270 awning.

is that the max modular awning mount and then you just modified with some additional steel and welded?

 

You are correct. Awning mount on the outside and then some countertop support brackets on the inside. Nothing is welded though, it's all bolted together.

Here's the video where I learned about the setup. Basically used this guy's awning mount as a template. Around the 5:30 mark.

 

The RCI awning brackets folded under the weight of the OVS 270 so I built my own. I was surprised there was not more off the shelf options.

My solution.

 

Love the solutions here, hoping to figure out something easy and cheap for myself. Would adding a 3" spacer be an option under the OVS supplied bracket? Or would this cause load issues? Trying to keep cost to low, but I really need to raise this at least 3-4 inches in order to clear the rear door.

 

Bringing this back from the dead. Trying to solve the same issue with KBV mid height rack and an OVS 270LT. Have KBV extended mounts but you can't bolt the 270 to it because of the design of the mounts. Ordered some 15" counter brackets to mod the mounts with and clear the door. Any other cool things out there? Seems pretty difficult to find out of the box solutions to this.

 

Did this work for you? I'm running a high Cali Raised rack (17.5in) but need to raise it probably 2-3 inches for it to clear as well.

 

Here’s what I did after looking at this thread. 30ish dollar piece of metal from Home Depot, a cut off wheel and a drill and some paint. Holds pretty firm. It’s worth mentioning the factory brackets did not mount easy to cali raised bed rack. Had to do a lot of drilling and some wonky mounting but it works. Must be a proprietary design.
