A little something every chance we get.
Thought I'd make a lunch for my volunteer day tomorrow.
Discovered the sandwich meat I swear the wife just bought is a month old. Thankfully, did not unleash a stink, but trying to pull it apart made me check the date!
    Guess I'll go out...

Hope to get a couple things fixed today at the cabin. Every time I come seems like I don't bring the right tools, because everything is just "fine". The lake cruiser went into limp mood last night. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. No throttle response.

I did double donations one time, thinking "This is great; donate every 16 weeks compared to every eight weeks."

Got up after donating, and fell flat on the floor. Oops.

    Thank You do donating!

Well, that was an interesting start to my volunteering! More people there today, so I just kind of bounced around all morning with folks, doing this and that, and finding out I could probably do a lot more and sooner than I expected. But, I did sweep up the oil today. I've never had that many people thank me for sweeping the floor.

Here's a surprise - these warbirds are old. They were built to tolerances that made them field repairable by almost any talent level with a book (or not). They were not always expected to make it home. Much less 70 years of "after-party!". @Tacoma Mike , if you saw all the oil I saw on your race car, you guys would have headed home without racing! But, these things can handle it.

It was an exciting day for me - Yellow Rose was home, and just had both engines service - couple pistons rebuilt, several oil seals (which are "great" if they only leak a little! So we got to do a maintenance taxi - get the engines up to temp, and then check them out.

    Ready? Right engine already fired.
    20230531_103218.jpg
    Fire!
    20230531_103247.jpg
    And running!
    20230531_103248.jpg

All that smoke is perfectly normal (I learned today) after work, and especially after the engines have been sitting. All that oil eventually settles to the bottom, so "filling" oil is a special learned technique, because all that smoke was really not a lot of oil. Then, I got to see this. Computer sound can't convey it's like being in the pits in the middle of a dozen late models! When the air isn't washing over the wings, there is a LOT of random backfire!

    https://youtu.be/AXy16a8iWGw

That right there made my day!

And, I can "work" on something, even next week if I want to. It's never going to run, and parts are going to be pulled and cut for a cut-away display. But, I get to wrench a radial!

    20230531_095646.jpg

I think I'm going to enjoy this. And the pace is "old guy pace" = don't rush us, we'll get it done!
