You're still glazing past the fact that that's not a good receiver hitch, and wouldn't hold a trailer. You might get away hauling your motorcycle, but even then I wouldn't want to be behind you.
If you actually looked at the photo I shared instead of trying to protect your pride, you'd notice those little brackets attached to the bumper, while the receiver is still securely attached to the frame.
I'll concede that I was wrong on the aluminum. Still doesn't make me wrong on the strength when talking about attempting to tow with a heavy steel bumper attached to stamped steel barely wider than my hand.
I also shared your own photo to allay where I made my call out of "two bolts holding it on". My bad, I looked up those brackets. It's four bolts from the bracket to the bumper, but how many bolts hold the bracket to the frame? 4? Looks like one is an open eye there... Not sure I'd trust that with a trailer. So in other words, 1 solid bolt on each side attaching those brackets to your frame.

What you are "sure of" isn't worth anything- Toyota engineered and load tested the brackets, and they have been used millions of times without a recall; nowhere have I indicated an intention to exceed the design limits of the brackets.

 

Speaking generally, the deportment of those responding here has been deplorable. On large, ugly behavior focused on exposition, with no constructive interest- a fig leaf of concern, absent interrogation, as thin excuse for gleeful sneering. Not folks I care to know.

 

This bumper looks questionable at best and the welds are booger-ed. I don't know what you were expecting? If you would have posted crash/impact testing results or even proof of towing with it safely, then maybe more people would be on board with the design.

You posted on a public forum.

You opened yourself up to whatever anyone wants to say on the internet; no disclaimer is needed for that before posting...it's simply a given.

With that said, we can all agree your tow hitch setup is far from safe.

Here's a mock-up of what I was doing with my own DIY bumper -



And that's not showing the mounting points I created where the bumper attaches directly to the frame rails and gets bolted on in an 'L' shaped configuration.

You actually intend to tow with yours, I don't. For your safety, as well as the safety of others, remove your bumper and fix your bumper situation to attach directly to the frame (and not some thin bracket) and reinforce that hitch.

 

I'll give you props on one thing OP, I still can't tell if this is serious or not. Either way, I showed this post to a coworker and they said it "made their day", so know you've brought joy into the lives of others with the haphazard scaffolding you've questionably mated with what was once a proud automobile.

I don't believe that you are having a reading comprehension problem- I've already made clear the rating of the OEM brackets will not be exceeded; your concern for the brackets are baseless, as is your advice to replace them. Your advice to "reinforce that hitch" is also without basis, as you failed to make basic inquiries about the nature of load bearing components, and have not been afforded a view of the fillets joining the receiver tube or plates receiving the brackets. In addition to the fillets you haven't seen, are there also rosette welds joining the receiver tube to the support? How many? You don't know. How is the load bearing member constructed? From what dimension material? You don't know. Of course, you don't need to know these details, as your response isn't actually intended to help- only heckle and defend presumption. You get the community you build- do better, or not, as you choose.

 

Now I’m wondering what the springyness of half a lacrosse ball is relative to the force of a vehicular impact.
