    I have to agree here.
Especially since I’m not a “cook”
We had a hose with gas stove, it gets just as dirty and needs cleaned as any other appliance. Plus, you just don’t unplug a gas stove to move/replace it.

The current house has gas heat, water, and plumbed for out side grill. Best investment that’s been made was the gas grill. It definitely heats up and grills better.

When I say we, I mean my mother. It’s a long complicated story. In short, I bought my mother a house, and that’s what she has. I’m currently living in the old family place on my father’s side. I’m trying to take care of my grandparents and their properties. It’s not exactly how I envisioned my future. But we do what we have too.

    Cooks better, Yes.

    Appliance wise, No.
The electric smooth top is far easier to clean and maintain.

I suppose it comes down to how much you enjoy food. For me, I don’t cook. I’ll go out of my way to not use a stove. Deli meats and wheat bread is my primary source for meals. If it takes more than 3 mins to make, count me out.

This year, the only definite roadtrip is the Carlisle Truck Nationals, which will be on the first weekend in August. There is a slight possibility that Amanda and I will be driving down to Martinsburg, West Virginia (a little over an hour from Carlisle) to have dinner at my friend's.

There is a very good possibility that we will be going to my Grandma's lake house in Maine this July, and I want to drive the Tacoma up for the following two reasons...

    1. I have had my driver's license since 2011 and have never driven my truck further north than upstate New York (specially Syracuse, and then the Rochester area, in the same weekend); I would really like to drive my truck up to Maine before my grandma sells the house.
    2. Amanda and my grandma have become very close to each other through regular phone conversations, and my grandma wants to meet Amanda; Maine is the best way of doing this. Even my dad's fairly large Yukon can get cramped when it's just my parents and me (without Porter). Add Porter and Amanda into the equation, and the Yukon will not be a fun place to be for roughly seven hours. The plan right now is for Porter to go with my parents and all of the luggage in the Yukon, while I follow in the Tacoma with Amanda riding shotgun.

As such, I expect to be close to 180K by the end of this year, and past 195K miles before the end of 2024. I will definitely be past 200K before my 36th birthday!

Just because of rigged judging? I don't believe that I've put my truck in the judged part of the Truck Nats since 2019; I was annoyed when I lost 2nd place to a Saab 9-7X in 2017 (it's a goddamn Trailblazer with a Saab emblem), and also rather pissed when I lost points for having scratches in the bed and ended up in third place again in 2019. As such, I have done non-judged every time since then.

With regards to paying $50-$60 for a weekend showfield pass, I don't think it can be beat. Now that I've got a girlfriend with health issues, it is definitely a better way to go than simply going as a spectator, because Amanda can go back to the truck and crank the A/C if she needs a break.

I have had minimal issues at car shows (but unfortunately not ZERO), though one thing that's been annoying me since well before COVID is that people are recognizing me due to the sheer number of car shows in Pennsylvania that I go to. I am a very social person, but the vibe I'm getting from some of these people is that they think it's weird that I show up at all these shows and take pictures. They ask me where I post the pictures and I feel like I'm being interrogated; I see a lot of the same people at the Carlisle Truck Nationals every year, but I don't get the same vibes from them that I get from people at other lesser shows.

Post-COVID, as you know, I've also encountered a lot of weird behavior at car shows...

April 2020, I was at a car and coffee at a shopping center in Doylestown; I was taking pictures of a Porsche 911, and some random guy came up to me. He asked what I was doing and what was going on; I told him that I was taking pictures of the 911 it was one of my favorite cars, possibly neglecting to mention that this was basically a car show (even though this was blindingly obvious), and he admitted that he didn't know much cars. Okay, whatever...

I saw a red Ferrari (I believe it was an F430, but I don't remember the model for sure) and set my sights on it; I walked across the parking lot, started taking pictures of the Ferrari, and realized that the same guy had followed me. He asked me why I was taking pictures of peoples' cars, and I just about lost my shit; I shot him a "please leave me the fuck alone" look, then once again explained that this was a Ferrari. He didn't seem ot understand what made this car so special, but I definitely told him this time that this was a car show. At this point, he got the message and wandered away.

This happened in September 2020 at a car show in Telford, and it is more of a COVID hysteria/mask rage incident that happened to be at a car show, rather than being related to the car show itself. I NEVER wore a mask at an outdoor car show, even 6 months or less into the pandemic. It was warm out on this day, and I thought of nothing of going up to a woman who was walking her dog and asking her if I could pet the dog (this woman was wearing a mask outside in the summer when there was nobody around her, so this should have been a clue to stay away); I approached asked if the dog was friendly...

She said something like "Yes, he's a friendly, but you can't pet him because you're not wearing a fucking mask!"

This was September 2020, vaccines hadn't been rolled out yet if I remember correctly, and I can understand the desire to social distance even outdoors. However, the F-bomb was totally unnecessary and immediately put me on edge. An argument started, and I said "You woke up on the wrong side of the bed". This made her even angrier and she said "We're in a fucking pandemic!" She then went on a rant about how they shouldn't be having car shows or something, and proceeded to walk down the street, where she entered a duplex house. From what I could gather, she was just pissed that the Borough allowed a car show to be held right outside her home...

    Typical Karen!

@Taco critter probably remembers this incident at a cruise night in Levittown, in April or May of 2021, where a woman didn't understand the concept of a car show. This woman was probably in her early 40s, and I was told later that she had issues due a combination of mental illness and previous drug use, and she does not presently have a driver's license (I don't know if she ever had one). Despite not having a license, she owns a white 1994 Pontiac Sunbird convertible (like, the title is in her name, so for all intents and purposes she is the owner), which her moderately more sane Vietnam veteran father drives her around in; I have been in a Facebook group called Underappreciated Survivors (1973-2004) since late 2020 or early 2021, and this time warp of a badge-engineered Cavalier fit the bill for this group perfectly!

I saw the car pull in and immediately went over to take pictures. The car WAS in the show and not just a spectator's vehicle, let me make that perfectly clear...

I started taking pictures of the Sunbird, and the daughter lost her shit. She became so belligerant that I backed away from the car and gave her father a "WTF?" look. Her father told me that I was fine, to keep taking the pictures I wanted, and then to just walk away. The daughter was making such a spectacle that her dad got up in her face and said that they would turn around and leave if she didn't cut it out.

    I get that.

I used to enter my antique Honda CB400F Super Sport in a few shows each year but have gotten away from it. I live in York county not far from the Harley plant. Any show I attended with the exception of Japanese specific shows I would constantly lose out to a Harley with a handful of aftermarket bolt on mods. Now I'm not a sore loser and if I lose out to a clean, unusual, or rare bike that's fine. I just got tired of losing out to a Sportster just like the one you can see parked in front of just about every neighborhood bar.

This is a 3 year only production model. 1977 the final year and only 5,068 were produced in that final year. Bike is about 90% or more original.

And most of you probably remember the drunk redneck at the Carlisle Truck Nationals in August 2021 who got offended by the American flag vanity plate on the front my truck and confronted me for it.

He called me a "fucking commie" for driving a Toyota ("Jap crap" as he called it) with an American flag on it, then proceeded to rant about how the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. He almost got a face full of pepper spray and a truck door to the kneecap for his trouble, since he was much larger than me and being very aggressive.

Also, the moron should have really paid attention in history class. The so-called "commies" (Russia/Soviet Union) fought with the Allies in WWII. The Nazis and the Japanese both HATED the Russians. His insult of calling me a "fucking commie" for driving a Japanese truck (that was manufactured stateside, by the way) was totally wrong!

How about a Sportster parked inside a bar?!?!

This '95 Sportster that I saw at Red Robin on Memorial Day is pretty sweet though!

I generally avoid people in general unless I have a “good” reason to interact with them. A dog isn’t a “good enough” reason for me. Don’t get me wrong, I can talk to just about anyone. But I find that I have much fewer problems when I keep to myself. Mostly because I don’t “inherit” other peoples problems. Isn’t it funny how some people can make “their problems” your problems?

That's a nice example of a Sportster no doubt. Has accessory color matched rocker box cover spacers, painted to match cast wheels, chromed rear master cylinder cover, color matched timer cover, and likely a few more factory made add ons. I was trying to find what the 1995 production numbers were but no luck on just a quick search but I'd venture they made far more Sportsters that year than the total run over the 3 years my little Honda was made.

Much respect. In 2004 we bought our inlaws house (her twin sister and husband). The parents were getting to where the house they were in (for 40 years that the 3 girls all grew up in) was too much to keep up with, so the 6 of us decided either someone moves in or we all have to start paying bills, mowing lawn, blah blah. We bought this house and they moved in with the folks. This meant we could keep both parents there until they passed away..was especially key for my father in law, despite the Alzheimers he still had the long term memory and that house was big for this.

It sucks to say but I know when that time comes my sister is going to just look at it as an inconvenience or not be there, but she'll look at their passing as a fucking bonanza where she can help herself to things.

    What part of Maine?
