I just bought my first Tacoma last week and it’s making a rattleing noise from the driver-side of the engine bay. I’ve already checked the heat shield for the headers and the exhaust. Has anyone heard this noise? The sound doesn’t get faster when I rev is so I don’t think it’s internal in the engine. Heres a link to the video with the sound clip-

A trait of the Atkinson cycle engine is a higher pitched “whining” type of noise. Not sure if that’s what you’re hearing here. Does the rattling ever die down? The Atkinson cycle goes through cycles of whining then not from my experience.

Have you compared the noise to any other 3rd gen Tacomas at idle?

Need to buy a stethoscope and isolate, ideally remove the drivebelt and recheck if noise continues.

yea definitely not a normal noise, I’ve attached a video with the noise. It sounds like a head shield rattling around but I don’t think it is.

I did that, sounds like it’s possibly the belt idler bearing next to the Alternator. I didn’t know if anyone one here would have had a similar experience though. The dealership I got it at said they would fix it for free but they are over 2 hours away so if I can fix it for under $100 I’d rather just do it myself then drive it all the way down
