I just recently installed the Joying 9" headunit. Has anyone come across how to adjust the volume the navigation turn by turn using andriod auto? In most of the headunits i've had with andriod auto (pioneer, atoto) I can adjust the volume of andriod auto turn by turn navigation. In the Joying when I adjust the volume for turn by turn it also adjust the volume of the music. Has anyone found a way to adjust the turn by turn and music separately?

Hmm, no. But also I keep that muted in both my Joying hu, and my Sony Android Auto HU.

Ok i'm gonna go ahead and bite the bullet on the 9" one...gonna get the non-JBL, and get the extra camera and OBD2 functions. Just gonna let my shop install it so that I don't fuck it up, and if anything does go wrong they can fix it too lol. I'll let you know how it goes and see if I can find out from them how plug and play it really is.

EDIT: after a second look, I was wrong. You can simply turn it on/off, and I always keep it off except when I'm on my motorcycle so I want it loud then lol. sorry

IDK how Androids work, but on my iPhone, the volume for navigation is adjusted in the phone settings, or within the navigation app. Perhaps there is a setting in one of those for your phone?

Did anyone get the steering wheel controls to work via plug and play or splicing, without purchasing extra parts, on a 2012-2015 non-JBL, and buying the non-JBL version of the 9"?

Just wanna see if it's possible, or if not, to have all parts necessary before I take it to install.

Wait for a sale. I missed one that would’ve saved me $60. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do one this weekend for Memorial Day. I ended up cancelling my original order and I’m still waiting for another sale.

Ugh. Didn't even think about that and already placed lol. Lemme see if I can cancel it.

emailed them to see if they have one coming up, and if they can just retroactively apply it vs me cancelling and re-ordering and adding extra hassle.

here's hoping they do have a sale coming up this weekend, otherwise I don't think I can wait much longer. Factory Headunit glass has been broken for about a year now and I've been getting by with steering controls and the actual buttons next to the screen, but about to go camping next weekend, and then do a long road trip shortly after so I'd like to have it installed before at least the long trip, if not both.

You can also set it to only notify you of important alerts instead of turn by turn

I've been wanting to upgrade my radio for a long time. Nothing wrong with my current one, but my parter got a new car with CarPlay and I got jealous. Plus looking at these made me realize how tiny the stock screen is on our trucks. Haha. I've already upgraded the speakers and sound deadened the cab so this is the last piece I want.

Lol yeah...if my headunit touchscreen was working I'd definitely wait until a sale or possibly not even change it out at all. But as it stands, I can't connect my current phone via bluetooth, or anyone else's, nor can I reset my maintenance screen or use really any functionality aside from the 3 or 4 buttons next to the screen, and whatever my steering wheel can control. So it's a bit frustrating.

I might even upgrade my speakers again, since the ones I previously upgraded with were spec'd for the extremely weak stock headunit lol.

I have a full set of Infinite speakers and Punch sub for sale if anyone with the jbl setup wanted to upgrade those speakers. They worked surprisingly well with the jbl amp, enough so that I didn't want to bother with upgrading the amp anymore

Hey there. Do you have any pics of the speakers and sub? And, what are the sizes of the speakers?
    Thanks!

I'll snag some pic's. For some reason, the setup sounded a lot better with the Infinity 6x9, and factory tweater. I didn't use the crossover and system sounded awesome. *for a factory jbl amp'd system

It's these. Looks like it's about $450 + taxes. Will sell for $300 + shipping. Probably come out to around $350 shipped

58 pages later, I feel comfortable enough to pull the trigger on the 10.1 inch model for my 2015 non-JBL tacoma. From talking to Joying via email and a couple users with same/2.5 gen trucks in this forum say that the factory backup camera will NOW be plug and play with a newly updated harness that doesn't require splicing. I'll give you guys an update once it arrives, as it seems that I should not run into any issues.

I just installed mine on my 2014 non/jbl, and yes it worked. but you will have 2 yellow connectors labeled the same, if 1 doesn't work, try the other. Talking from experience

    Update:

Just finished installing the 10.1 inch in my 2015 non/jbl truck. Everything, and I mean everything was plug and play, including the backup camera and factory USB port which previously were mentioned by users here to not work. In the last 2 or 3 months they have updated their harness, which you can find at this link on their website: https://www.joyingauto.com/toyota-universal-harness-support-factory-reverse-camera.html

Suprisingly, all steering wheel controls were retained and I didn't even need to set them. They worked right out of the box. Now that's hawt.

    Before:20230531_154438_001.jpg

    After: 20230531_190226.jpg

I did notice that there was no built-in microphone like some people mentioned, but most of the users were using the smaller 9 inch screen with knobs (probably has one on the actual unit). I wired the microphone in between the climate controls and the Joying unit as there is a small gap that fits the cable just nicely.

Overall, the quality is amazing and Android auto boots up and is ready to go within 7 seconds of the truck being powered. Some small settings needed adjustments, such as the music shutting off when being put in reverse. Being an android tablet, you can download any application you want from the play store, but I think I'll primarily use android auto for it's simplicity and clean UI.

As for the speaker system, this head unit has taken my stock speakers to the next level, and frankly I had no idea they were capable of the bass they output once I meddled with the EQ.

9/10. Everything worked as intended right out of the box and I am shocked at the ease of installation and configuration. Some of the settings menus and apps are a bit janky, but I'll forgive those as the options are endless as it's an android interface strapped to your dash. Not to mention Joying support was incredibly helpful in reaching out to me and answering the various questions I had and confirmed that the factory backup camera worked without splicing.

    Joying, WELL DONE.

Looks great, I think I might order one for myself.

    Questions:

How long did the install take? Do you think anyone with reasonable tinkering skills can install?
To get the updated harness did you check "AHD Reverse Camera" when ordering?

Install took about 20 minutes - all the plugs are different shapes so there is no concern about plugging the wrong cables into the wrong ports. Honestly, the most time consuming task was removing the climate controls and OEM radio - once the OEM radio was unplugged it was probably 5 minutes to plug everything in and snap it back into the dash. SWC and backup camera worked without any further tinkerin (YMMV based off of year and JBL/non JBL).

It seems that they include the correct harness regardless, but when you order they will likely ask you to send a picture of your OEM radio to confirm. Just be clear about your radio, year and JBL/non JBL functionality and they'll include the correct harness. There's about 3 cables on the truck that don't get used (GPS, microphone and radio antenna) and some cables on the joying harness that don't get used either as it's a catch-all harness for all years.

I did not select the AHD backup camera - that's an additional camera to wire to the back. If you have an OEM backup camera in your dash currently, make sure to mention that - the updated harness they supply is to retain OEM backup camera support. The AHD backup camera is a standalone camera if you don't have an OEM backup camera or you want to wire a front facing camera/etc

I have no wiring experience and an IT background but the install was stupid easy, and you'll be shocked at how easily it is to set it up. Just make sure you take the yellow bezel clips off the OEM radio and move them over to the new unit so it clicks into the brackets nicely.

I was apprehensive about purchasing this unit, but the physical quality and ease of use has made me a believer and I urge you to pull the trigger if your on the fence. There is a sale going on right now, so you can save about 8% off most of their units. Joying support is also very responsive, and my entire experience was flawless.

    Goodluck!

Thanks, again. I appreciate all the input. I think I'll correspond with Joying and pull the trigger this weekend. Looking forward to the project!
