This poor guy is catching some grief but I like the fact he is willing to think outside the box and also has the ability to make what he thinks up happen.
Call it trial and error but at least he is not afraid to try to do things differently.
We have a guy in my neighborhood we call Screwy Huey who dreams up some pretty wild things.
He built his own hang glider and fortunately test flew it over the lake. He built a demolition derby car where he could sit facing the rear instead of forward and recently I saw him on a unicycle he made that had to be 8' tall. I don't know how he managed to ride it. I didn't see him fall off it but he must have because he doesn't ride it anymore.

I'm in total agreeance that it might not be the best idea to tow with this thing, still unsure how exactly the bumper is mounted, but I think everyone is skimming over the fact that OP's truck is a 2.4L 5-lugger. I don't think he's gonna be towing anything of significant weight, if at all. The tow hitch is probably just for looks or maybe hauling a 4' trailer of trash cans to the dump.

Then test this bumper to the point of destruction by using a car from a salvage yard ( driven by a volunteer wearing helmet etc to protect themselves)and hitting his bumper from behind at increasing speeds till something fails.Hopefully someone from a salvage yard would be willing for the sake of fun to donate a suitable vehicle .
Put it on YouTube so it can be posted here.
That way no get hurts in a real life situation in the event it fails ,splinters earlier than expected ( which I have no idea when “ expected “ is)
If it holds up the OP can build another and arguments are solved ,if it doesn’t then no one was hurt.
