The thought did occur to me, and I had the top bearings on hand but I tossed spindles in the garbage.
Just have too much stuff laying about already, and the one reason I agree with wife to fix this mower was it's ability to mow the side hill. The new ZT mower powers straight up the hill with ease.
The older I get the more done I am with farting around with stuff:anonymous:
My daughter has friends who recently purchased a house but hardly have enough coin to pay attention. If my son doesn't want the old Husky riding mower then I may give it to daughter's friends. I bought it cheap enough $450 but great condition.
I'm going to head into the shop and knock out a couple of lift blocks.

In regards to those spindles; 17-18 yrs ago when I was mower shopping, a salesperson told me he didn't know why they put grease zerks on those spindles because they are all sealed bearings. So for the last 17-18 yrs I've been putting a squirt of grease in there...I've always wondered. That guy was partially correct, the top bearing is sealed both sides but the bottom is open internally. The one I knocked apart had a good amount of red&Tacky in there.

I hit a chunk of a tree branch about 2-3" in diameter the other day mowing my side yard that connects to my neighbor's property that he doesn't take care of. My grass was a little tall and I missed it with my eyes and hit it with the mower. My Kobalt dang near split the thing. Took me a rubber mallet and a couple heavy thwacks to dislodge it, then went right back to mowing. Idk what they made this blade out of but it's heavy duty.

Yes, certainly do hope all is well with him and his family.

He's better now. Had a health scare back in November/December. He's still doing rehab, but also doing cookouts again.

Yeah, good to hear he's doing ok.
    Be careful out there fellas.
Wife Uncle in upper 70's fell on some steps a few days ago, hit his noggin and now he's passed away.
He was a super nice guy and fun to visit with, one of relatives on Mother-in-Law's side who made it up to visit on occasion. His wife of many years passed some time back and he was just starting to enjoy life again.

Friday May 33rd at my place. I hate when they do this. Push out the shipping date. Ship out stuff that’s not due until next month and then come Monday there’s nothing to do.

I usually buy 2RS bearings and pop one seal out if I need it open.

The thing I have noticed about mower spindles is how large the cavity between the bearings is.

Usually I glob some grease in the cavity, I wonder how many pumps it would take with an empty assembly before the grease got to the bearings.

Maybe the grease fumes are supposed to do the lubricating?

So on these spindles the cross-hole is drilled at an upward angle towards and near the top bearing. I kind of figured it lays pretty much right down in that bottom bearing.

I couldn't begin to count what I have hit and the repairs made over the years...

    Some of the "best":
Steel cable dog tie out - ever notice that most of them are green, grass is green too...

A Gibraltar sized rock that ripped the spindle right out of the deck -- that was expensive.

A 3" steel pipe set in concrete -- caught it dead center of the deck. Bent the front of the deck about 3" in and bent both blades.

A "Welcome" mat of all things, it was hidden in an overgrown area.
That was a PITA to cut out along with all the wild grape vines that came with it.
First I had to cut the mower loose from the ground...
    :annoyed:
