Not a Tacoma, but a Tundra. I pulled my tailgate and rear camper door to make a custom door. Should have it wrapped up tomorrow and painted. I'm going to run it for a while and make any changes that need to be made and have it powdercoated.

How far out from the edge of the camper does the awning mount place that inside edge? Wondering if there will be enough clearance for the gas
shock on a habitat while opening.

Have any of you fellow habitat owners had a cold weather issue with the little side light windows cracking?

When I was unfolding my tent earlier this year in freezing temps both the windows shattered. I would he very surprised if this was an isolated event.

I reached out to AT to ask how I should go about repairing it, their response was kind of weird, told me that it wasnt a cold weather issue, really didnt even know how to respond to that I literally watched both of them brake at the same time while unfolding the tent.....in any case if any of you have any ideas to fix it / patch it im all ears.20230601_100355.jpg

I’m kinda surprised they didnt have a response.. thats kinda crap.

I’d probably start with a canvas patch and see how well it holds. Something like this
KING MOUNTAIN Canvas Iron on Patch,3"×60",Waterproof 100% Cotton Fabric Repair Patch,Used for Various Sofa,Tent,Clothes,Seats,Suitcases (Black,Waterproof) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNPJ3YSW

Eventually id probably sew a patch over the hole.. which sounds like a huge pain.

Hard to believe we have been in the hab for 5 years, so many great memories in it. We recently bought a van that we are building out and have exclusively been camping in that, girlfriend wants to sell the hab, its going to be tough for me to let go for sure.

Over GVWR and I keep adding more metal
I stay home in sub freezing temps!

But I did have a Samurai with clear vinyl and it would break when freezing. A boat canvas shop had more durable material for cheap. I'm sure a marine canvas shop would give you the vinyl for free, just pay the seamstress fee for stitching it in. Treat it with UV tech occasionally to keep it soft

I mainly miss it for ease of getting around on trails and such. Not that we did a ton of that. Definitely been stopped by places I don't fit now. And running around as heavy as I am is always in the back of my mind. Towing my toys I scaled at ... A stupid stupid high number...

Loving having hard walls though. It is just so comfy and cozy in there. Could easily chill in there with the wife all day if it was crappy enough weather.

My buddy that helped with all my mods was actually looking at a Habitat for sale post just this morning. He's got a Ford raptor and wants something better than his canopy when he's not towing his Travel Trailer. Be funny if he actually picked one up.

I honestly dont like the vinyl material in tents. I have owned a couple older (90s) pop up campers and the vinyl windows did not fair well in cold weather. Also the same problems guys with the modern softopper shells are having, and it only gets worse with time. I was hopeful nemo would take the cold weather into consideration and have some sort of different material but thats due to my own ignorance. The tents are as legit as can be other than these little windows. When I replace I will be replacing sans vinyl.

I guess I was hoping for an easy solution but looking like I will have to pull the whole tent off to have it sewed.

Yes agreed all around. The habitat feels like you just have a normal shell on, and will go anywhere your truck can, then feel like a nice spacious camper when set up. Hard walls are just a different kind of comfort, but certainly comes with the sacrifice of mobility.

I would still highly suggest a habitat for people with the right needs, its a niche but honestly even after having a comfy van im not sure if we will get rid of ours or not. Just nice having that feeling of not being held up by your camper setup.

Ok that sucks. I'd take off the tent fabric and get it taken to tailor who specializes in quilts and large sewn stuff.

Topaz Quilting and Embroidery in Reno maybe? I'd start there.

The main thing is I'd check in with Mario to see what spec thread they use. I'm not sure if you'll be able to get the same tent fabric if you want to change to something opaque, but you can use marine vinyl, usually you can find something with UV Resistance and Non-Yellowing specification. I'd also recommend taking the opportunity to sew on some velcro panels inside and out. Maybe you can cover them with some foam insulation during the winter to reduce the stress from low temp.

Yes, low temp can destroy vinyl fabrics, so heating it even ever so slightly can help out, even like using a diesel heater whenever you have the tent popped open in the winter. If you're really anal, you could get some 12v heaters and velcro them in place and turn them on a few minutes before you open and close the tent.

Wife and I had a good experience sewing with the Speedy-Stitcher when we ripped our tent open. It just needs two people, one inside the tent, and one outside. The stitch is like a sewing machine's, so it holds really well. I think it's waxed thread, but we just put seam seal stuff over it, too.
