Oh, I'm going to return to OE here very promptly. I just need to find the time to do it because coils are always a pain in the rear to do if you don't have the right tools at your disposal right? We all know that! :D

Okay so as a quick update to my truck P0351 situation and the stumble I felt:

I went to start the truck today to try and go get some stuff from the hardware store real quick. I tried cranking the truck up twice to no avail. It would start and then it would die as soon as it started. I rescanned the vehicle and found 5 stored new codes. P0351 P0352 P0353 P0354 and P0356. I pulled all of my RIPP coils out and installed the stockers back in. Wen to crank it up and it fired up and stayed running immediately.

Those RIPP coils are a problem guys. So much that I may consider repealing recommending them in page 1 given the problems @Murphinator had and now I had with them.

Just to confirm....both of you guys were using the 1st release of the RIPPs, right? Not the redesign with the better fitment?

I would be absolutely shocked if there was actual legitimate data aftermarket coils are better than stock ;)

You are now the third person I know to have had the same issue with these coils on this forum. Looks like these coil packs are nothing but a pain in the ass.

I was indeed. I’m pretty sure the internals are the same, I could be wrong but I think these coils are ticking time bombs for issues. I know some people with jeeps haven’t had great luck with them either.

Correct, but better fitment does not equal better internals whatsoever.

I would be interested in seeing it if indeed someone comes out with something regarding test data but I can tell you that while they did work the idle was crystal smooth compared to the OE coils.

The internals are going to be the same. There is no way in hell that RIPP has come up with some sort of redesign using superior internals for these coils.

Then why'd you buy them? :boink:

Sorry about that. I'm a bastard and that does seriously suck when an upgrade fails like that.

Atleast you got stranded at home, when mine went out it was totally fine then I turn onto a highway and started to go and the truck just died. Just glad it didn’t happen somewhere super remote, hopefully nobody has that happen to them.

So I bought a 1GR motor to very slowly build up into something cool. Still have to look into where I can get wet sleeves installed in Canada. Any drawbacks to a stroker crank? Any tips for what to go with @Torspd, @mightytacoman, @Lucario Runner, @12TRDTacoma, @rheath08, @o0opackersfano0o, @JustDSM and anyone else?

Have Kelford cams and springs FIC injectors kicking around already.

Would increased valve size be a good idea and what would be an ideal size? What's the verdict on titanium vs inconel?

Tell me more about this wet sleeve… Does the block need to be modified to add this or does the 1GR already have this feature? Also, are you boring out or keeping stock piston/bore?

It would be darton wet sleeves so the block has to be bored for them and I'm not sure if any machine shop can tackle it. Dartons website has links to recommended installers, but there's only two in Canada and both are on the other side of the country.

No draw back in stroker so long as you use the bc rods and have it balanced. With other rods you will need to make clearance on the block. You will need to get the timing gear from the OEM crank to install on the bc crank.

Very limited shops know darton. There are a couple in Texas. It's not terribly difficult compared to the diesels they should be used to seeing but Ive seen shops mess up on sleeves alot. Dry or wet. I would go with the darton approved shops however.

Unless sticking to NA, is it worth going stroker vs just building the engine to take more boost from turbo or blower (pro charger maybe?)?

Thanks, good info to know. Looks like I'll be eventually shipping the block then.

Could be. Larger displacement and would be happier to rev with the knife edging.

Better fitment doesn't mean better internals... but better fitment did mean less tension and pressure on electrical/ignition components on area where it might matter. I have no idea how the internals of coil-on-plug ignition systems work but I would think stuff like that (current) won't like pressure/tension/curves/bends that it wasn't designed for.

I won't deny that you probably forgotten more ignition stuff than stuff I actually know about ignition.... but I gotta say that it will take a set of the redesigned ones to fail before I am 100% convinced. Right now, I'm only 99% convinced. Haha

@TodayWasTHeDaY did your ripps also fail? Were they the 1st iteration?
