Thinking of buying a 2023

Hey guys, I know absolutely nothing about the 3rd gens besides that the first couple years apparently weren’t the best. I have a 2015 access cab and my wife got pregnant somehow so that means we need a bigger truck. I don’t want the first year of a redesign so I’m thinking about snagging a 2023.

What do I need to look out for? What options do you suggest getting? I really want 4x4, sunroof, leather, heated seats, best possible headlights and a hood scoop. From what I can tell, it looks like Limited might be my best bet and then try and find someone who wants to trade hoods with me.

Any suggestions? Can someone give me a rundown on known issues to watch for? Can someone give me a rundown on what options are available with the new Tacomas? Can someone give me a rundown on how to survive having a baby?

Go to the Toyota site and look through options. The Limited is nice, but you should be able to get the options you want in a Sport or Off Road with added packages. Might be best to go with a sport if you really want the scooped hood.

Really there isn’t that many options. You’ll want the tech packages with BSM and rear sonar.

As for the kid? Good luck, buddy!

Is it possible to get a sunroof in the sport? I was playing around on the site and couldn’t see a way to add it.

You'll never get a baby to sleep in the Sport... (Odd configuration with the stiffest suspension set-up in the Tacoma range). You need the Offroad for utting babies to sleep. - but since you want bells & whistles, really the PRO is your best bet. o_O

Not what your budget wants to hear (I am sure!).
I'd get a nicely trimmed out OffRoad and trade the hood for one with a scoop! Or forget the scoop. (you'll likely forget about many other dreams shortly too! )

Sleep is important. You wont getting much of that (or a few other things, for that matter) here shortly. Budgeting is important. A Manual gearbox is VERY important.

Oh - and I'd try to figure out how your GF got pregnant... I mean - just so you know. It might happen again. - Good news is; You'll be good with the offroad (or PRO) regardless of whatever that answer is! :D

    - And Congratulations!

Are the new ones considerably bigger than 2nd gens? Interior is marginally bigger at best in my opinion. Also you have the best year 2nd gen and it will age like a fine wine, I would keep it...

If you truly need a bigger truck get a full size

This is why I hate forums lol.

I need a truck; I can not do an SUV with a utility trailer. I ride motocross. I do a lot of renovation stuff. I camp. I use my truck bed more than 99% of the truck owners out there. Having a truck is nonnegotiable and not what I was asking in the OP.

4 doors are. I have two dogs as well. I built a platform in the back for the dogs. Now that I have a baby on the way, I am unable to fit dogs and baby in the back. Even if it’s just baby, the passenger seat will be so far forward that it’ll be super uncomfortable for anyone riding shotgun.

I can’t/don’t want to do fullsized; I drive and park in DC every week.

It sounds like TRD Pro is perfect for you. You’ll hear alot about gear hunting or the seats are uncomfortable but my 22 doesn’t gear hunt and the seats are comfortable.

I was looking at the pro but I mean, I had my sport since 2015 and it handled everything I threw at it. Pros are like $10k more or something ridiculous. I do a lot of off-road stuff but not serious off-road. I drive through mud lol. I’ve never been in a position where my sport got stuck or I had to carefully pick a line or something.
That being said, I’m not against going for the Pro. I’m just not seeing the advantage to them for someone like me….

I totally get it. I was just thinking of the options you wanted, the Pro would have everything. The price is crazy on them though; especially if you go for solar octane .

I got my 2023 Sport in March with all of the bolded that you listed so it can be done. And I absolutely love it. Was on the fence about waiting for the new gen, but I'm really glad I just went for the '23.

And my 4 year old fits in the back with the car seat no problem. Like you, I'm not looking to go hardcore off-roading but I wanted something capable for when the little guy gets older and we go on adventures and stuff. Plus I wanted the nice stuff like leather, sunroof, etc

That colors badass. Given how much the pros cost it better have a unique color. I can’t imagine getting an ordinary color like white on a truck that expensive. Solar octane is amazing.

I bought my 2015 new when I could have bought a 2016 a month later. I’m so glad I did. I’d much rather have the last year of a model than the first year of a brand new motor, trans, etc.

I used to live over your way. I know what you’re driving in etc. I think you are correct. No way you need to pay extra for a Pro. Sport suspension won’t put a baby to sleep. Haha that’s fun. My 2c, you want a TRD sport premium pkg (~$3825 add on), LED headlights (~$450 add on). Those two adds have what you listed as required. Start searching dealer listings of allocations. Find the closest thing to that you can with the least amount of add ons you can stomach. I think you will hard to find a TRD sport premium pkg without abbanvrd tech pkg (~$1450 add on for sport) or tech (~$750). 2023 TRD SPORT premium with LED lights in short box V6 auto should be somewhere around $43,500 MSRP. But again it will be hard to find one without more Toyota add ons. And your time is short. Good luck.
