" I really want 4x4, sunroof, leather, heated seats, best possible headlights and a hood scoop."

just a note on the sunroof, you loose an inch or two of headroom when you get the sunroof. had some friends in my back seat a couple weeks ago and they mentioned it felt roomier than another friends tacoma. he has the sunroof so they felt a little cramped back there.

pretty much everything else can be added after the fact besides 4x4 and a tech package.

leather seat covers (not the same) and heated seats through clazzio or something. headlights shouldn't be terrible to swap out.

the hood scoop can be a lot trickier though. theres a thread around here with people swapping/selling. color matching can be a pain.

Good point on the headroom. I should check one out in person first.

I have a kid and a sport w/o the sun roof. A car seat will fit fine, I have the graco extend to fit seat. It's tight, but comfortable and it's mounted in the center position. But driver and passenger seats are usable with adequate leg room for myself and wife, but we're both short, I'm 5'7" and the wife is 5'4".

Just a headsup, while I love my truck, for longevity I wished I would've went with a full size for rear seat room. My son is now almost 3, and I have to be really careful when putting lifting him in to not bonk his head on the headliner, and he is only going to get bigger. My $0.02, see if you can't make the full size work. Even in traffic/city parking etc. I think it's not as big of a deal as you might think, and you'll have the "grow into" factor for all your S#*%. Although I love my tacoma, it really is not a great family vehicle.

Yeaaa I just can’t stomach full sized prices right now. Ugh. We do have the palisade as the family car which is nice but I hear you

idk. i drove my dads 2015 tundra most of last weekend since he wanted to take that on a quick road trip. parking in places was not easy for me after driving my tacoma for so long. i got used to it, and maybe thats all it takes, but it took some tries.

If I were in a position to do it I'd buy a 2023 and sit on it, smart move to get one before the 2024's come out.
This new engine they are coming out with smells like long term headaches to me, especially the first 2-3 years.

All the bells and whistles like leather seats and sunroof are nice but costly.
If you got the jack then do it.
For me, it's a truck, not a Kim Kardashian mobile.

I heard/saw someone saying dodge 1500 warlocks are priced around 45k, just over what you'd pay for a TRD Off Road/Sport... not that I'd want to be driving around in one of those, just saying depending on trim, you might not be too far off price wise. Tacomas are a bit pricy right now, and for pro money you can easily get a mid tier full size with nice options

If you are wanting a 3rd gen, better do it quickly. A Pro will be extremely difficult at this juncture. I'm fortunate to say I will be picking up my Solar Octane Pro next week.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
you have about 2 months. Then the plant shuts down to retool for g4. So unless your buying "whatever you can get" your window to be picky is shut.

I did motocross, and gncc races for years, and towed a small enclosed trailer with my bikes, and gear. I did have a 4wd toyota pickup in those days, but I really didn't need to.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Did you test drive the new tundra. If I were upgrading to the newer gen stuff, it would be to the tundra.
Way more space for all the stuff needed, and they don’t feel as huge to drive in the road as they used to.

Just saying if you need a truck and are thinking of new. You owe it to yourself to at least drive one.

Second this, I’m 6’4 with a sunroof and no issues. But I don’t wanna have this go down a headroom debate like it often does. I also second the LED lights and a TRD OR with premium pkg or Sport outfitted the same.

Good luck sorting through the contradictory advice & arguments.

Limited does offer you all of the options that you say that you want (leather, sunroof, LED’s) w/o navigating through a bunch of packages. Tires are street biased so it’ll ride a little quieter & you’ll pick up a few more mpg’s. And even the standard 4x4 w/o locker is adequate for light off road. If you seek more off-road chops, see OR. If you seek more off road chops and want to pay a dealer too much, see Pro.

Make sure you test out a forward facing baby seat in the back. It’ll limit space for the passenger in front of it, which for some doesn’t work. Otherwise take a very long test drive in as many different trims that you can find on lots, to make sure you’re comfortable with your driving position & the shifting. Those are the common complaints which are worth considering, however don’t have any bearing on overall reliability.

In 2023 these trucks are bulletproof relative to ‘16-‘17, and even those years are not as bad as some might say. Get a good deal on one before they’re gone.

People don't realize the difference in size between a Tacoma and an F150. I didn't either until test-driving the Ford. Those things handle like a boat. One drive was all it took to convince me I didn't need one.
