Doh. See that now. That's what I'd work with. Your switch panel idea should work fine, but a hidden switch might be even better.

This was a common practice on Miatas.

Thats good to know. not super into the tuner markets so trying to avoid anything that would be common.

@Andy01DblCabTacoma Had a good idea to use a reed switch. Was thinking i could have something on the back of the dash (up enough out of sight but close enough that i could keep a magnet to trigger it on my keychain)
I was reading that they are a hit or miss sometimes so i have yet to determine if this will be a reliable option. cool idea but it needs to be operable

The alarm that was in my truck broke the connection for the AM2 feed going into the ignition switch...

the white wire....by far the easiest wire to get to ...for total no start..

For a very obscure one that no thief would ever find.....cut into the crank sensor lead...
you get a brand-new lead every time you buy that sensor(Denso)....

Just dont have a good ideal for the switch....the thieves are pretty smart...it just cant be a simple switch...
maybe a combination of two switches....

The thieves are gonna know where most common place is for the switch...
    thats the money shot.....

Its super easy to steel any tacoma/4runner without an immobilizer key...

all you need is one of these.....takes about 20secs....
    just one plug....and a screwdriver....or anything flat....

    'Look ma, no key....'

The thief wont even have to break anything....just have to drill out the exsisting key switch when they get it back to the chop shop.....and then pop in a new cylinder....piece of cake....

More like....if you pull that plug out the back of your ignition in your dash...
and plug it into an extra one of these......AND ITS THE ONLY KEY(screwdriver)...that'll start the truck....

Knowing this, a seasoned thief can drive the truck offf......in 20 sec.....no damage to the truck......easy peasy....
actually this flaw makes them way easier to steal than the kia or hyundi's......no breakage neeeded...

just have to drill out the ignition later on ..to install the new key cylinder in......so it dont look like a stolen truck.....

The toyota alarms tap right into those wires coming out of the back of the ignition.....
so the thieves are very familiar with those because of the value of toyota....
their chopped salvage parts fetch top dollar.......
    .....

    A viable idea.
Searching for those i found one of those RFID starter button kits.
    Might be another option.
I feel like someone targeting the older trucks wouldn't have the Fancy transmitters to bypass that, and if they did, they likely wouldn't know one is hidden in the truck needed to start it since shes an older girl.

    Another idea i just had.
Double throw switch of sorts and it sets off an alarm inside the cab when they try to start it.

I can see myself accidently forgetting about that multiple times.

I plan on putting one in as well.

But yeah, ideally i don't want it going anywhere to begin with.

I'm all about redundancy and overkill

Like I said earlier I'd look to cut something obscure....

like the crank sensor, efi circuit, fuel power.......but in an unexpected place...

Where you put the switch is the secret...

only reason I participating here is maybe someone will have an 'Euricka!'....

Down here in the south.....I get alot of Mexicans that want to buy my truck....all the time.

    Makes me nervous....

And yeah thats who I bought the truck from....and who put the new motor in...
these must be like mothers milk to them....

And with cops being so lame....that air tag may only get you shot.....

I see all the good sr5 4x4's around here in their hands rocking all the gear in the back.
I've had a few want to buy my truck. but most are interested in my cutlass ciera.

yeah tracking it solo or with friends is not a safe option. but being able to tell the cops where it is will be a good option.

However, ultimately it needs to not leave the spot i left it in.

Being forgetful, i like a method that i don't have to worry about.

Another idea i just had, i would like power locks, so i could tie that into the ignition. unlocked with the remote would allow you to start it. if you use a mechanical method, it won't.

Another thing to keep in mind is that all dc switches fail eventually....
this and lock tite is no.1 rule in the RC world.....

the arcing pits/eats the contact eventually.....
and if you use an ac switch accidentally, it deteriorates even faster....

toyota gets around this by using spring contacts in the ignition switch...
which resists pitting....but when they go ...they go all at once without much warning....
.....hence the reason I keep a generic backup one in the glove box.
    .
    .
    .

So whatever you choose....make sure its easy to get to and reverse to get you home someday.......
