    Very interesting thread.

As a first time Truck owner...and picking a Toyota, the TRD trim was my choice.

In a way, it's good I did not experience the earlier year Tacomas to express the heavily debated opinions about upgrades.

I mean, if I didn't like something about a vehicle, I wouldn't "vehemently" despise those things I would deem unnecessary.

It's just a truck...get what you want and be happy.

Don't degrade those for choosing otherwise.

lol I actually never thought about the fact that the auto-down is only on the driver’s side until I responded to that post.

Hood struts? I hate the prop rod are they drill free bolts in place application?

Hood struts are Striker, yes they do require some drilling, but they are nice. The Cali shields are in, the 2.0 version.

SR5 is for poor people. The TRD Pro is for mall crawling posers. The TRD offroad is just right.

Truthfully in late 2020 I bought my 2018 offroad. It was between that and a new 2021 SR5. I test drove both and the offroad had leather, pushbutton, sunroof, crawl control, difflocker, better wheels & grille, "premium" sound system, bed mat, and I like the fender flares. It was low miles and the same price as the new SR5. Since it's a Toyota it was a no brainer to buy the more loaded vehicle.

I think the off roads have heavier duty differentials as compared to the sr5

The other perk of an SR5…aftermarket remote start that doesn’t require your truck to turn off when you open the door. That’s more valuable than all the other perks when you live in a cold climate and use the remote start six months out of the year.

    @AM6217

    lololol

Yeah, buying an SR5 is still an expense...I consider it more of a budget decision.

I budgeted a $40K threshold...since the last NEW vehicle I bought was $32K, I figured it was my turn to get what I wanted in a vehicle.

Just because people buy entry level Tacomas does not make them poor.

It's not a poor decision either.

Get what makes you happy and within financial reasoning/what you can afford.

I went with SR5 because I would never use the off-road extras on TRD and didn't want to pay for them. I also like the SR5 grill better than the TRD. SR5 has everything I want / need so it made the most sense for me.

    Like...yeah!

But don't you like the two uses of the word "poor"?

I don't get the PTS hate. I love not having to carry a wad of keys like a Jr. High Janitor.

I got the QuickLift Elites which required drilling. Came out great and I love that I don't have to mess with the hood/prop.

One can modify an SR5 to their needs. Very easy. I’ve enjoyed doing that.

Aren't the interior amenities nicer on the Off Road, like bigger screen, dual zone climate control, etc....Not to mention much better suspension...

Personally I wouldn't have an issue buying an SR5, but I dont regret getting the Off Road.
