    Hi All,

First time Tacoma owner here with a used 2022 TRD OR with just 3,000 miles on it. I've got a 5 day money back guarantee so I'm wondering is there any fathomable reason to spend $200 on a buyer's inspection from a 3rd party Tacoma dealership or am I just wasting money? I can't think of what could go wrong with such low miles so I'm deferring to you guys.

    Thanks!

I wonder why such low mileage. Did you do a car fax? Is it from a Toyota dealer? You should have warranty assuming it’s a clean car fax. Good luck. I really enjoy my Tacoma. If you spent 35k+ I'd likely spend $200 if it’s not coming from a Toyota dealer

Yes, do an inspection. You don’t know what you don’t know. $200 is cheap insurance.

New to the forum so not sure how to reply directly to a comment... but I bought it from a well known Audi dealership in the area and yes, it's got a clean car fax and was just serviced a few months ago. Still has 18 months left on the new car Toyota warranty.

My ex son in law bought a one year old Mercedes for $95k from a dealer in Illinois. Did not get an inspection (dope). Went off the dealer description and online pictures. Car was delivered and all was good until he went to a body shop to have it detailed. The car was wrecked previously and rebuilt without any insurance company knowledge to avoid the ding to the carfax. He was stuck with it. $200 would have been a small price to pay.

Noted - I sure would like to avoid a horror story like that. I'll go ahead and do the inspection. Fingers crossed!

    Thanks everyone.

I’m trying to do a deal with a new Ford dealer that has a 22 sport with 7500 miles.
I asked about if I fly in from out of state I want to take to their local Toyota dealer for an inspection and they don’t want to do it.
    Has clean carfax,auction vehicle.
    Another used with 44 miles,yes 44.Auction vehicle
    Sick of the games!

Just traded in my 2023 Ridgeline with 3800 miles, decided it wasn’t for me, picked up another Taco. People do it all of the time, I’ve traded in several vehicles before the first oil change was due.

I would also say to inspect in person or have someone else check it out. My used vette was sold to me by an exclusive auto dealership that sells very high end vehicles. I took their word and was semi-burned in the deal.

    Best of luck

Even when buying a brand new car off the lot , I inspect it myself throughly.

I crawled under my Tacoma and inspected the frame and everything.

It’s a whole lot of money we are paying for our cars.

Maybe ...just maybe if I knew a mechanic I trusted.

But a random dealership "inspection" ?

Total waste of money. They barely glance at things during the bullshit multipoint and that's on vehicles they actually service.

In another lifetime I bought a certified pre owned 2002 Tacoma. After I bought it, the alignment looked off. Went to indy shop. Guy asked how big was the tree I wrapped it around. Had a mini stroke, brought it to another dealer and traded it in on a 2006 Taco.

The known mechanical issues like timing cover leak and coolant crossover pipe leak you can check yourself, and you still got the mfr's warranty anyway. Take it to a collision shop for inspection instead, check for evidence of crash repairs, flooding, etc.

In today's market? May have waited a while for an allocation at MSRP then realized he could sell it for more money.

I don't understand how folks can get such a decision as buying a vehicle so wrong and to NEED to trade it within a few months (-weeks?)...

Yes, I know; like is short / do what you want / to each their own / instant gratification / bla bla - insert your favorite 'I deserve it' platitude here.
    :humble:

yes its their money, not mine or anyones...:headbang:
but It is simply not a bright move. It is what is known as 'highly inefficient' in economics...It is an expensive blunder.

Are these buyers teenagers? Midlife crisis sufferers? buying drunk, maybe?
    :rasta:

Then they trade - giving the dealers an additional bite at their $$s... why not sell privately to mitigate the impact of the prior perhps 'not so great' decisions?
    :argue:

Anyway - rant over - just one of those things make me wonder sometimes.

    carry on...

See this all the time, especially with Tacomas. People realize it sucks on gas and they aren't very comfortable and kind of large and trade them in within a year for something else. highly doubt anythings wrong. Make sure it hasn't been in an accident, only accidents reported to insurance are on carfax. Plus you still have the warranty so anything big should be covered. I see a lot of people in rich areas do the whole buy and trade it in fairly quick. Probably just didn't realize what they were getting into or just want something else like the new trailhunter. If your ok holding off until the end of the year when the new tacoma drops you'll find a bunch of last years trucks get traded in. Toyota CPO are another good option as they have their own warranty with them.

Absolutely get it looked at. You can do all types of stuff to a vehicle in 3000 miles. Just look at pics on this forum of all the predicaments people get into.
