    I own a 2010 base 4cyl 2WD. 5 lug

I like to max it out and test its limits. What would be a good differential up grade to help with my over sized tires and towing but still allow me to drive on the highway?

    Tire calculator might give perspective

And you might find some nuggets of info in the 5 lug forum.

Depends on whether your truck is an Auto or Manual.
I think the 5 lug Auto had 3.56 gears, while the Manual 3.31
I would not go over 4.56. A set for 4.10 would probably be easier to find/get.
Not that the 4.56 is “hard” to get, but it’s not standard, so you’ll pay a small premium for them.

You need to be more specific: Are you asking about gear ratio or some type of traction aid such as lockers? Based on how you phrased your question some will assume you are asking about gear ratio. You should also provide what trans and tire size you are using as well as what you are towing. What is you priority? Towing or Highway. What MPG will you be happy with and what will disappoint you. When you say highway are we talking 100 miles or 1000 miles?

    Correct

My reference is for '13, but Prerunners came with 4.10 that year. Unsure about pumpkin size to swap.

And swapping whole assembly (axles and all) is a challenge because of mounting on the springs differently between 5 and 6 lug.

I would probably go with a whole 3rd member.
Setting up gears is not something I like to do, and I’ve only done it a couple times.
