Got rear-ended during a turn about a month ago. Brought the truck to the shop (caliber collision) and they gave an estimate of around $25K of damages (Insurance won't total it, they even denied my Agent's request to do so). I own the truck outright.

They say it needs a new frame (bent). Backordered from Toyota for 3 months.

Luckily, State Farm covers all aftermarket parts that were on the truck (Kings, ECGS diffs, cab mount relocate....etc).

There is a good mix of mechanical and body work that needs to be done. I'd rather a shop like @Mynameisbrandin do the taco-specific mods. Not sure if I can get multiple shops involved. Caliber says they can do a cab mount relocate, but I'm not trusting that work....lol

Does anyone have any tips or experience dealing with damage of this magnitude thru insurance?

No comment on repair other than the caliber by me was a disaster to deal with. Stay away from them… big chain with zero quality checks.

I’ve not heard good things about Caliber, but to be fair- they do a ton of vehicles, so you’re going to have a few problem projects and I’ve never personally used them.

Depends which one you go to. I have two where I am. One’s terrible and the other ones are rockstars.

Caliber bought out all the local bodyshops 3-4 years ago around my neck of woods, from the best local chains to garbage independent shops.

They are totally a mess. It's the Carvana/Carmax of the collision repair world.

Caliber was Prices here before becoming Caliber.
They returned my frontier with parts in the bed that had not been installed, bug strikes under the clear coat, red overspray on step and mudflap. Literally rubber from the other vehicles tire in the fender flare. I would get another estimate.

Definitely get another estimate at a body shop you trust.

    Talk to your agent.

Assuming the other party was at fault and their insurance is footing the bill, you should be able to select any shop you wish.

Ask your local Toyota dealer. Some of them sublet such work, some of them do fine. Just another possibility.

That damage sucks. I would stay away from Caliber. I had real crap work done there and they tried to pass it off and were not pleased about having to take my truck back in. Unless your local Caliber is exceptional, stay away.

I was thinking this. It's too far gone to be worth it though.

I can select whichever shop I want. This caliber seemed like the best option available within 100 miles. Now that the timeframe is 3+months, maybe I can tow it up to Dallas where im more familiar

A real frame shop can pull that.

Same thing happened to me last summer. Someone rear ended me. Truck was brand new . First 2 body shops I went to would not even write an estimate on the truck. I went to a Local Toyota dealer and asked about ordering a new frame. They said 6-8 months to get one but cannot guarantee when it will get here . Third body shop wrote an estimate for about 25k and also said it will probably take 3 to 4 month to fix it. Thankfully Insurance company totaled in.

In my opinion the damage to your truck is way more than 25k. Cant see in the pictures but did the bed hit the cab? Frame is bent, rear axle looks bent, plus the body damage. I would try a different body shop.

Wow that sucks but not surprised, with the prices of a new truck nowadays.
