    Well, I screwed myself royally!

I have a 2015 Dbl Cab Sport 4WD, to which I'd list one key and fob about 6 months ago, and didn't make another. Long story short, divorce, moving 2 times, and getting old...

Well, yesterday, the second one went missing with the code tag. I'm sure I have the actual code written down somewhere, but will this alone allow me to get replacement keys and fobs?

If not, what are my (most cost effective) options for getting my truck keyed & replacement fobs? Any DIY mods are being considered, including doing away with the chipped keys, if an option. Or am I screwed and need to tow to dealer to have everything swapped out (ignition switch, door lock, and computor)?

You can get both Chip key blanks and fobs online at cost, you can even program yourself in about 10mins.

Of course you have to get the key cut by a lock smith but it’s all fairly inexpensive.

I haven’t verified this but I believe the chip code is engraved in the door near the cylinder.

Hell, I over ordered 2key fobs that’s sitting in the Amazon package collecting dust I can just mail to you.

Do you have a link for how to reprogram the chip key? I thought one needed to do thus at the dealer?

As for the fobs, I'll PM you later. Thanks

So I had a keys cut at my local dealer recently, $40 a key plus $180 service, oh well...

they ordered the key in advance without me giving any info. Does that mean they ordered the key based on my vin specs or did they clone the signal when I handed my key off to the service dept?

    The new key works great.

Key is generic, they cut and code at the dealer as you surmised.

What he said. I just handed the dealership/body shop 3 key blanks and 3 fobs for them to program/cut. Makes it cost effective to get charged labor for 6 pieces getting programmed instead of 2. I got a good deal on it since my truck was in the body shop.

*Different dealers will charge different cost to do it too. Call around your local 5 dealers and ask their cost.

That stinks for the OP, I was hoping they'd be able to see your key info from your vin number. I guess too many people would take advantage of that system.....Let us know what you end up doing...Good Luck!

For the Key (make sure it’s cut by a lock smith)

    @RockfordTaco2006
Man I wish I talked to your dealer.
My Toyota dealer in Canada quoted me $1,600 incl tax.
To Reprogram 2 keys, 2 fobs, and key the door cylinders to the ignition cylinder. (Don’t ask about that)
My good damm keys better be made out of diamond at that price.

I spent $100 bucks to do it all myself.
