What is this red stuff? And how can I see the coolant bypass to see if it's leaking?

And is it normal? Got a 22 with what I think is a coolant leak have a dealer appointment on Monday but expect them to say nothing is wrong. How can I see the coolant bypass that is prone to leaking? I saw some pics on here but still can't find it.

Also is this pink stuff coolant or the sharpie they use to mark parts? It comes on my fingers with some rubbing but the other part marks don't

First is just gasket material. Strange that so much is exposed from the factory, assuming no work was done since you bought it.

Second appears to be paint. Nothing to worry about.

Neither are from a coolant leak.

The guys above are correct, all normal and nothing to worry about.

Good on you for looking under there too, observation is an important part of maintenance even if you choose not to do your own work.

Sadly I keep dropping about a half inch or so of coolant every few days and cannot find the leak anywhere, no coolant under the truck and no coolant on any parts i see, and the dealer says "all looks good" but i bet once out of warranty they will suddenly find it.

that would indicate a leak. It may be evaporating before it hits pavement. My '18 was experiencing the same loss, after the dealership replaced the righ head. It was the coolant hose, between the heads, behind the engine..

yes. The truck was under warranty at the time. Engine removed, head replaced, then they had to go back and properly reinstall the coolant hose, two weeks later.

I don’t want to scare you, but just check your oil level and color to rule out the head gasket.

When engines burn coolant it’s sometimes related to a compromised head gasket, where coolant leaks into the oil jackets. The engine oil would be brown and milky.

your oil looks ok to me. I suspect the coolant line was improperly installed, or its hose clamp needs to be replaced....the former is the most likely.
