i had this exact issue and the only response was to tape it or replace the whole tent. Since i had the old style, I replaced the tent. It wasn’t cheap.

i also told them that my opinion was that the windows are a design flaw and pointless.

How much was the tent out of curiosity?

I also agree that the windows are pointless.

basically, $1000. They installed it for free and at the same time, i had them reinforce the front corners. I was out the gas, time and $1k.

Apologies... I've been reading up on the AT Habitats online. Finally saw this thread on TW.

I made it to page 8 but have to ask now.... does anyone here have a habitat on a 1st gen double cab?

Has anybody ran their Habitat without the gas helper struts to open/close?

Wanting to mount an awning but the struts are a pain in my ass.

if anyone is needing a bug net for the entrance to their AT topper and isn't skilled with sewing Oregon AT just released a custom one specifically for ours and they come in two sizes: Mid-size and Full-size. Pricey, but looks to be QUALITY and has some features you won't find on a mosquito net draped over your liftgate!

@corprin i recently had to replace both of my Habitat struts as they failed at the same time. It was a PITA to lift open the habitat to replace them so definitely do not recommend running without them.

    Hey all,

I was finally able to buy a used Habitat after looking for one in my price range for several years now. It's in decent shape and I'm slowly going through it to get it sorted and spruce it up a bit. A good early winter project!

It needs new rear tailgate hatch gas struts (not the giant ones for the camper itself; just the ones for the back hatch). What's on there now is Suspa C16-24194 30lb strut and a Suspa C16-24193 20lb on the other side. Both part numbers are not easily found, expensive and back ordered through Suspa themselves. Can someone point me toward a cheaper, more available option or a cross reference chart of struts that work?

    Thanks!!

welcome to the Habitat. If you find an alternative strut, be sure post it. mine are slowly failing, have not searched for replacement.

Have you reached out to AT Overland? Their customer service is pretty good, even if you bought your topper second hand.

Just email or call AT and they can let you know what you need. They are usually pretty responsive

Thanks for posting. I don't really wanna pester Mario and crew at A/T until I really need something. They're busy enough as it is!

Someone on the A/T Facebook page answered my question and said these work, too:

Suspa C16-02648 C1602648 17" Gas Prop, Quantity (2), Force is 35 Lbs Per Prop, Force Per Set is 70 Lbs, Camper Rear Window, Tonneau Cover Lift Supports, Window Lift Support, Struts, Made in USA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007IV6AFI

Does anyone think that AT Habitat would make a camper that would be flush with cab height?

Not possible the way they are designed, maybe they would sell you the top/ tent and you can build or have something built the way you want it

Anyone know the exact size of the Ball studs four total-that are used for the support bar?? I'd like to use stainless and avoid the corrosion.I was able to locate a source -thanks to ATO but I don't know the exact size.
    thanks guys

    Hey all,

sad day but I’m getting a tundra and need to get rid of my AT Habitat. I’ve loved this thing and will be looking for a used one or something similar for crew cab tundra with 6.5’ bed.
its in great shape other than some superficial rust on the roof struts and the roof rack. I applied new DWR to tent and resealed all seams last year just for the hell of it. It’s got the add ons shown on invoice. $8000 I’m in Central Vermont.
Truck is getting traded in but willing to sell as package . It’s a 2016 Off-Road loaded and has 150,000 miles.

Can someone let me know how many inches the Habitat on a 3rd gen measures from the blue arrow lines in the picture? Thanks
