I'm going to do the switch on my next oil change...just because--and include a Fumoto Valve in the process.

I have no problem with the aluminum filter housing but no, not a chance on my using that valve. It appears many have used the Fumoto valve with no issues...
I have the kind of luck that would get that thing knocked right off by a small piece of 2x4 or a woodchuck...

I'm still using the original oem plastic housing. Works fine.

It is absolutely worth it. If you get oil changes at the dealership or a quick lube place you'll realize I am right quickly. They overtighten the housing and it becomes a giant pain to remove; or the plastic will give and you'll be trying to take it out in little pieces.

One of the best and cheapest upgrades I ever did to my Tacoma.

if anything is coming that close to your oil pan, you're already fvcked.

and that's why i installed one. easier to use, less mess, and no one else is paying for my oil changes.

Have you ever looked at the design? You can not overnight it. The housing flange will come in contact with the oil filter assembly at proper torque. Continue applying the torque will damage the housing.

I had the plastic housing break on a Camry. So it and the Tacoma have metal housings now.

And the Fumoto valve does not stick out past me TRD skid plate. It works great.

The Toyota nut (I think) on his filter YouTube video says not a plus or minus but it’s all about the filter being an OEM filter and right part number

You said it best. Proper torque was the key. They keep going way past the torque spec. It is absolutely possible to overtighten it. Just look it up on YouTube and you'll see what happens.

If you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, go put it in the stock market. Better return on investment. The OE filter cartridge works fine. Don't over torque.

    @Greg-tacoma

I know what you're talking about.

The part number is for other Toyota engines...and not the Tacoma.

That's one of the reasons I didn't install it (it was on my mind) the last oil change.

But, I had the wrong paper filter and I made a mess on the TRD skid because I was in a rush...so that added to my decision.

This next oil change, I will have a better attitude (and the correct paper filter) to do the job.

The Fumoto Valve does not stick out past the TRD Skid...so it's tucked in there with some room to spare.
