We are all supposed to have flying cars and jet packs by now too. Sure they exist, but haven’t seen any during my commute and travels. So still only a novelty. Only way for EVs to go mainstream is when governments force them upon consumers. Much like LEDs, getting harder and harder to find incandescents anymore. Yes LEDs are better, but if the every day consumer was given the choice, they would go with the cheaper option.

Well good points. But like buying any upcoming Toyota BEV, or LED's etc. I'd rather spend a little more now and have something that lasts longer than keep spending money more frequently just because it's cheaper.

LEDs certainly don’t last in our 70 year old house, might get a year out of them. Definitely not the claimed 22 years that is on the box. Would cost us $15K to rewire and fix the previous owners botch job, which is causing the LEDs not too last. That buys several lifetimes worth of incandescents. Haven’t seen any reduction in the power bill either, it has gone up actually.

My wife’s commute of 1.5 miles round trip makes her a perfect candidate for an EV, however much cheaper to toss a new engine in my old Tacoma for her. Plus she can come get me if I need a rescue from the backcountry. Cheap EV car is about useless for that. That and she doesn’t like cars, much prefers driving a truck.

Just because it is supposedly better doesn’t mean it is, when you stand back and look at the whole picture.

Exactly. They brought them on a vacation to a Hawaii. They aren’t going to say much negativity after that.

Wow, I"m on year 7 with the same LED bulbs through the house and definitely an effect on my electric bill. Yeh an EV would be perfect for me. I"m under 20 miles drive to work a day. I want to build an EV motorcycle. SOme kits coming out. Will be interesting.

The 22 yrs claimed life is based on a use of 3hrs a day if you read the fine print.

also a whole house surge suppressor should give you better life from the bulbs if your power in the area isnt super “clean”

The house was renovated about 12 years ago by the previous owners, a lot of cut corners and several big appliances on the same circuit sort of thing. Needs totally redone. We aren’t in love with place, so just keeping it maintained until what decide what to do in 5 years, another renovation? Sell it and build from scratch? Sell it all and hit the road? No idea…all up to “the boss” if know what I mean.

I like the idea of EVs, though not convinced they are going to be any better for the environment. Plus we live in an area where families have 5-10 kids. We have none, don’t see how us sacrificing convenience and finances is really going to make a difference when you see that. Their resources and energy “footprint” is rather insane compared to us, even if I run out and buy a 1 Ton gasser that got 10 mpgs and used incandescents in the house. Ya know?

Want to save the planet? Slow down on the reproducing…

Would hope to get better than a year though. They slowly get dimmer then fail completely.

Yeah, have been meaning to get a surge suppressor, just one of those things on the list to do. Isn’t a huge issue if all i am doing is replacing light bulbs. Have UPS for the desk tops.

The debate between incandescent light bulbs and LED light bulbs is easily settled. You can eat an incandescent light bub. You can't eat an LED light bulb.

That's the only answer to a cleaner environment. When people are popping out kids like a Pez dispenser (and everyone else is footing the bill for their roll in the hay:rolleyes:), it adds up.
Every 'answer' to a cleaner enviroment is only a bandaid to the big picture, there's way too many of us and the numbers aren't decreasing.
But I'm an idiot redneck, so ya gotta factor that in.

Your view aligns with Bill Gates. That is not a complement. I leave no further comment as to avoid the ban hammer and we really are reaching the stupid part of all threads.

That sounds like the debate between buying a race car and a house if you can afford only one of the above.

Can you sleep in your car?
    Can you race your house?

You can't race a house. Lol

Eating light bulbs is a lose lose situation no matter how you look at. I just happen to recall seeing many examples of people eating incandescent light bulbs. Real or fake, no idea why those exist. Can't recall seeing any examples of people eating LED bulbs. It makes as much sense as sword swallowing, or any odd talent somone might exhibit.

I thought of it as a compelling proponent to the light bulb debate in favor of incandescents.

Steven Wright would be to differ.

“The other night I came home late, and tried to unlock my house with my car keys. I started the house up. So, I drove it around for a while. I was speeding, and a cop pulled me over. He asked where I lived. I said, "right here, officer". Later, I parked it on the freeway, got out, and yelled at all the cars, "Get out of my driveway!"
