I have a 3rd gen off road I just ordered 6112 and 5100 with a camburg x joint I’m going to run 285/70/17. The shop is telling me I need to do a diff drop or I will ruin my CV boots every 6 months. There’s a lot of controversy on this topic I do not rock crawl or off road much but to me my diff being the lowest part on my truck scares me for a inexperienced “off roader” from my understanding there is no proof that a diff drop will help I’m debating if I should just buy new cv boots and axles that are angled when the time come. Or should I do the bushing

I would advise against doing a diff drop.

How much lift do you have?

It’s not necessary. Don’t go over 3” and spray lube the CV boots monthly.

In my opinion it's not necessary. I've put them on a few trucks, sure it helps with cv angles but not by much. Earlier than normal wear and tear is the nature of the beast when lifting a taco

With 6112 you definitely do not need a diff drop.

    Enough for now
ECGS bushing is a good idea. Diff drop is not needed on a 3rd gen. I’ve had the 6112/5160 lift for over two years and my CVs are fine and I’ve pushed her off road a bunch. If anything the cv boot mod that extends them out after a lift is your best bet even then sometimesnot necessary

Thank you guys for your replies! I’m goin to lift it and probably be a little under 3inches I’ll see how much my boots are under pressure then debate what to do from there

I have a 2/1 on 5100s on my DCLB for 4 years with no issues. I did a front diff and rear carrier drop at the advice of our local shop who is very well know in our parts. This kept everything in spec, no vibrations and run 285s.

Diff drops for our trucks seem to only angle the diff fore and aft rather than aligning it better with the CV angles. 2” lift is just fine without it.
